Not because they need to, but because Apple has convinced them that it's the prudent thing to do. That's why resale value is such a hollow buzz word. When you've already been price-gouged on an expensive Mac, what good does it do to sell it 1 year later, and repeat the process all over again? Personally, I'm an editor, not a coder, so my knowledge stops at troubleshooting drivers for RAM, GPU's, and other such media intense peripherals. Fact is, people like me HAVE to know more than one OS, because that's the field. Only people that want limited employment, stick with one OS.

Also there are really smart people that only use one OS because that's enough for them. They don't see the benefits of wasting an hour or 2 getting Hacinktosh to set up or $100 for Windows. Also, real programmers are never stupid enough to stick with only one OS. They'd use them all.
●Actually, the cheapest GeForce graphics card out there, that is also 2GB, is the GeForce GT 520, which only runs as high as $60. 8GB of RAM doesn't even run $50 these days, and a 1TB Western Digital Caviar Blue (which is a standard 7200rpm HDD) can run as low as $99. So that's $60 + $50 + $99, which comes out to $209. Building a computer with those specs, for $650 (or less) is actually VERY doable.
