Daniel Barenboim with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, opening the 1997 season at Carnegie Hall in this gorgeously performed dedication to the recently deceased Sir Georg Solti. Solti was the previous
●A truly beautiful piece of music. I am at once filled with both sorrow and pride when ever I hear it.
●Anyone here from Mantlegen's video?
●It brings tears into my eyes for almost 30 years already, so beautiful.
●Thanks. Just beautiful.
●This piece always gives me goosebumps!
●they played this to a friends recent funeral and it brings back sad memories. Very hard to listen to and not cry. A great piece of music written by a great English composer. God Bless.
●Which stately home? I've googled and can't find it. I would love to go! I cry every time I hear this and have never heard it live! It's heart wrenching!
●this is why I know i have to put up with the melancholy, to be able to love the soaring with eagles. and that proof of god and heaven is all around us.
●Im 12 and i just want to say something. Everyone who commented here has got the same idea. This "piece of art" has brought everyone together, long gone memories of your relatives have been thought of and many words have been said. This is the meaning of life as @Tridosu mentioned we are all 1 i have read a lot of books about religion most of them that we should treat someone in the same way you want you to be treated. I hope War,Gas and everything that degrades us will soon be simplified.
●Once, when Elgar had been very depressed and was about to give it all up and write no more music, Jaeger had visited him and encouraged him to continue composing. He referred to Ludwig van Beethoven, who had a lot of worries, but wrote more and more beautiful music. "And that is what you must do", Jaeger said and he sang the theme of the second movement of Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 8 "Pathétique". elgar ten started nimrod :)
●Isn't that just communism?
●This tune was my dads favourite, i remember sitting outside the room where he used to do his tailoring and listening to this, now he is gone, but the memory of him and music still lives on in my heart. Also it reminds me of how proud i am to be english.
●i heard this live and jizzed in my pants, true story.
●I am visiting one of Britain's most magnificent stately homes in Aug to hear this being played by the English Symphony orchestra while a single solitary Spitfire plane soars overhead - for my mum's 60th birthday. I am crying already just thinking about it! x
●You are not stupid. Your brilliance blinds you. Keep feeling your way along. I wish the best for you. I would be much more secure with my childrens' future if you were the mainstream. This song is remarkably beautifull.
●I'm just going to listen to the song and silently >feel.
●He is SUCH a Sir, it isn't even funny. Where does Talent like that come from? Aside from glorious, glorious music.
●Not exactly. If there's a cello solo in this song, as there is in the story, then i wouldn't assume as such. But since there is none, I assume that anyone looking for one either *wants* a cello solo in this song (or any song), or has read a story that explicitly states there *is* one where there isn't. Quick, grab my tuxedo! LOGIC!
●That is irrelevant to what I asked. (But yes.)
●can I assume you read Una Nota Dolce as well? I swear, my eyes are tearing up right now.
●Hey guys, my high school orchestra played this for a contest and it would be awesome if you could listen to it and leave a comment. (we're alot better than most high schools, very professional sounding in my own extremely bias opinion) It's here, tell me what you think :) /watch?v=cDM2Cq9J_LM
●...There IS a cello solo somewhere in this, right?
●"What are we holding onto Sam?" "That there's some good in this world Mr Frodo, and it's worth fighting for."
●I chose this for my dads funeral ten years ago and it still is evocative even now

Requiem Sir Georg Solti Wiener Philharmonic Joan Sutherland Soprano Luciano Pavarotti Tenor Marilyn Horne Mezzo Soprano Martti Talvela Bass Recorded 1967
●With two hands.
●I played this to the Eighth Doctor. Now Gallifrey's gone.
●played this to my pikachu. now he's a raichu
●How can someone hit a drum like that?
●Once Albert Einstein heard this. So the Teory of Relativity was discovered.
●I don't think I've ever seen so many epic comments on one video.
●I was still hearing the music after 2:24 until the end...
●i read about this song in space odyssey 2001. its pretty damn good i must say, poor david bowman (guy from the book)
●I listen to this while im shitting.
●my entrance music
●I guess this video shows Verdi was a man of many colors.
●Honestly not laughed so hard in a long time..
●agreed
●i played this on my Mac. It shriveled and died.
●I used to use this song for alarm clock. Never had so much thirst for blood in the morning.
●Music made for Gods!
●2:25 the best part is after that point!
●I think that's the gran cassa/bass drum you mean, beginning on the offbeats at 0:14. Verdi specified in the score that the bass drum should be tightened VERY tightly so it would give a "hard, dry sound." Solti and the Wiener Philharmonic did a fantastic job with this detail, and they made it sound more like a cannon than a drum. I think Verdi would have been pleased.
*o* De bons souvenirs. :3
●I played this for myself. I liked it.
●Played this for my girlfriend. She's now my "daddy".
●Perfect alarm tune for an exam day!
●I played this on my laptop. It's now a transformer.
●I played this for my mother-in-law. She's still my mother-in-law...that old hag...
●Probably. All of those 19th century Italian composers were on drugs or something. Listen to some Ponchielli, Viotti, or Paganini. Something just seems disoriented about the extremely abrupt transitions one mood to another, and from one phrase to another. And then 20th century Russian composers were a bunch of angry lunatics who put their furious insanity to good use.

From a wonderful "Le Nozze di Figaro" conducted by Georg Solti at Paris Opera Garnier in 1980. The very famous stage production by Giorgio Strelher. Fabulous cast : Jose Van Dam (Figaro), Lucia Popp (
●Amazing!!! Enough said.
●Brillant. Nothing more need be said.
●i dare to say that they were very nice to each other and maybe friends? they are so good together!
●Wundervoll gesungen. Musik kann manchmal eine Offenbarung sein.´
●Awesome reference to The Shawshank Redemption. Loved it!
●This music is not from this world, can´t be from this world. It´s unbelievable to imagine that such a work is written by a mortal creature. Gundula Janowitz is one of the best, perhaps THE best soprano since Jenny Lind the "swedish nightingale".
●incredible set design
●All the posts taken from the movie i cant help but sound them out in my head with morgan freemans' voice =)
●This is the most beautiful duet I have heard.
●Ironic because this is about infidelity.
●I think Mozart would be tickled pink to know that his music was made even more popular by a film scene
●shawshank redemption:)))))))))
●wonderful!
●gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous Can you post "Contessa perdono" and the final chorus?
●One of the best interperations i have ever heard ! Excellent !
●Some day I will die - Listening to this day by day, I know I have lived.
●I tell you those voices soared, higher and farther than anybody in a grey place dares to dream. It was like some beautiful bird flapped into our drab little cage and made these walls dissolve away, and for the briefest of moments, every last man @ GiftRAP felt free.
●Two angelic voices singing heavenly music.
●Zihuatanejo...
●Hell yes to the Shawshank Redemption reference. That was why I even looked up this song in the first place.
●Your whole little paragraph there is taken directly out of the movie "The Shawshank Redemption". I wonder how many people commenting here, have seen that movie. It was an excellent movie, in particular, the scene where Andy Dufressne locks the gaurd in the bathroom, locks the office door, puts on the record, and kicks back in an innocently defiant manner, (even turns up the volume!) and blasts it thru the pa system, while the whole prison gets to listen to this beautiful piece.Yesss!!
●lucia pop, a diva, died more then 10 years ago, Gongula janowitz... what great sopranos, their pianissimi.. non of them is italian.. and nevertheless.... boaz Senator

Music, story, and libretto all composed by Wilhelm Richard Wagner. Georg Solti: Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra.
●Nosferatu the Vampyre brought me here :)
●And this children, is how every youtube video becomes a shit throwing match between different beliefs. Let people believe what they want to believe, and have the same apply to yourself.
●"It's unfortunate that so many crackpots like you hover around Wagner's music." Its unfortunate that people like you cannot critique the facts and resort to slander/smear and hypocrisy. Reactionary conservatives, worst form of filth, even Ex-Communists have more backbone today.
●I like that comment. Brief but eloquent and insightful.....
●But, yes.. great works of art. I think it is sad that the controversy he was involved in cause so many to eschew his good works.
●I totally disagree, and so would any rational human being. 'Art' is not beautiful because it all represents absolute truth. I can enjoy the intricacies of Der Ring, and still find great solace in the text and leadership of my Savior. The truth of Christianity is not a measure, nor a philosophy/ontology, it is a directive for living life under direct spiritual experience - not humanly wisdom.
●"because the effects of J in popularized media are negative" This is directly describing what you said when you described Christianized cultures as morally decadent. That would be like me saying, if Nietzsche were read by 5 countries and all 5 were decadent, Nietzsche must represent decadence. Wow, I can't believe I missed that, sorry - that was very foolish of me.
●No one is talking about popularized media depiction of Christ. Problem with Christianity is much deeper and Nietzche knows that. His thought is deep as an abyss and he is far far more than a modern secular humanist, he even was openly against it. You said shallow with your own words, check it yourself. One needs to study the whole history of (philosophical) thought before and after Nietzche in order to try to understand him. He would seem shallow if you've pulled him out of context.
●Wagner's operas are fantastic indeed and you should enjoy his art nevertheless. That just proves that the artistic truth is much stronger than the christian one :)
●I do enjoy the literary and artistic works of some narcissists, though. Like Wagner. His operas are fantastic, IMO. (I hope you aren't bothered by gratuitous response)
●Not that he is necessarily shallow in his philosophy, but that his perception of Biblical spirituality is (only in and of itself) shallow.
●I will just say that it is a logical fallacy to say that, because the effects of J in popularized media are negative, J is negative. I do not have prejudice against Nietzsche, I was a secular humanist obsessed with people like Nietzsche before I met and willingly, exuberantly enslaved myself to Jesus. Contrived, as spoken here, does not mean shallow. It means 'constructed purposefully; unnatural'. I said that because I think Nietzsche believes a shallow interpretation of spirituality, though.
●You can't. Minding your statement that Nietzsche is a shallow philosopher, you obviously, as a Christian, have prejudice against Nietzsche. I have been studying him for years now and I can most certainly tell you that he is one of the most brilliant, lucid and influental thinkers of the last two centuries.
●Ill and decaying values? I would say that has to do with your perception, not it's subject. I won't argue it among narcissists. There are predominantly Christian cultures which are morally, ethically, and recreationally putrid. Comparatively, there are well-funded businesses which go completely bankrupt for poor management. It is the people, not the Person who is at fault. I can't imagine I can convince you of that over Youtube. Just a suggestion!
●Contrived? That made me laugh. I won't try Jesus, Christianity is not a part of my people's culture. And I'm a German. Ironically, Christianity is contrived here, since it's been forced upon many cultures and is still finding it's ways of obtrusion. It is against life, against everything healthy in culture of a certain people. It has ill and decaying values. Expressions of life in Christianized cultures have become almost irretrievably rotten. Es tut mir Leid, but I'll stay an antichrist.
●Nietzsche was a pretty shallow philosopher, IMO. Very contrived theories. Try Jesus instead :)

●No, that's essentially what they prescribe here for all mental "ailments." Tom David Minneapolis
●You're joking right? Or did you just have a bad experience with a doctor?
●It's unfortunate that so many crackpots like you hover around Wagner's music.
●I like both heroin and Sesame Street. But that was not due to my psychiatrist. Remembering both well, however, I have long since enjoyed either.
●Amen, brother! SuperWasteBasket Byron Bay
●The Jews MUST hate Germany as Germany works with the Life-Force and the Jews always against it! Tom David Minneapolis

Orchestra & Chorus of The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden Sir Goerge Solti.
Awesome overture, the fingers dancing on the violin.
●SUBLIME!!!!!!!!
●Yes La Traviata is a masterpiece, and Giuseppe Verdi was a genius!
●MARAVILLOSO VERDI ....... MI "ALFREDO· NO LLEGARA A LA HORA DE MI MUERTE!!!!!! CREO QUE JAMÁS SABRA QUE ESTARÉ MURIENDO "LA ETERNA VIOLETA"
●one of the most beautiful opera's ever written thank you Verdi
●Permite-me voar...
●adoro............
●Buen video.
●masterpiece! beautiful!
●It's wrong!!!!!!! This is a "Preludio"and not an "Overture".
●Without dubtes, my favourite opera overture.
●I have 14 years, I am from Spain and I prefeer this that Brytney Spears or similar.
●the director at 2:05 is greattt :D
●ALEXANDRE DUMAS PERE WAS BORN NEAR PARIS IN 1802 AND 'COINCIDENTALLY' IN 1902 THE SOCIETY OF GESU(JESUITS) WERE EXPELLED FROM 83 COUNTRIES AND THEIR POPE IS ARAMIS AND HE IS ALSO KNOWN AS THE COUNT OF MONTE CHRISTO(GENERAL OF THE JESUITS).
●MICHAEL TSARION IS THE WORLDS PREMIER CONSPIRACY RESEARCHER/LECTURER/AUTHOR. DR. BILL DEAGLE, LEO ZAGAMI, JORDAN MAXWELL AND ALEXANDRE DUMAS PERE ARE HIGHLY INFORMATIVE AS WELL.
●La Traviata is the only opera I've ever seen live and it was one of the most magical evenings of my life. I saw a magical company (all of whom had sang at (Covent Garden at some time), deliver a wonderful rendition. I know very little about opera however this is my favorite. Surely without doubt one of the jewels in operas crown. I find this opera transcendental, and that's from an uneducated working class man who's education was virtually ended at the age of eleven. Timeless reaches everyone.
●I saw it many many times at Real Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Italy and I can't have enough of La Traviata! I love Opera!
●Remember, kid! In your thoughts you forget about one thing: Verdi will live on forever and is not dead at all!
●This is my favorite overture of all time... I wonder how loud a girlish scream I'd make if I had the chance to meet Verdi! :D
●IS WONDERFUL FRIEND, THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMENT!!!!!!!!

My ideal Susanna, my lovely Lucia Popp sings the marvelous "Deh vieni non tardar", from a wonderful Mozart's "Le Nozze di Figaro" conducted by Georg Solti at Paris Opera Garnier in 1980. The very famo
●wow wow wow!!!!!!
●There is a rare delicacy in her rendition of this aria on the famous Solti recording. Honestly, I never knew it would be humanly possible to repeat this on-stage. Angelic seems too brutal a choice of words to explain what this wonderful video has captured. Great posting.
●Lucia Popp is amazing. Does anyone have Popp's version of Gretchen? I was really disappointed that the only video I saw got taken off of youtube :(
●Popp/Mozart...NON PLUS ULTRA!
●Perfect in every way!
●Lucia Popp is just so amazing :) Definitely deserves the wonderful applause at the end! I am going to start learning this once my new book comes..I can't wait!
●How could anyone not be grateful for the privilege of seeing this video. I am so thankful that it is preserved for us. The best of humankind!
●A voice touched by God. Clarity and tone to die for! It floats into your head without preamble; suddenly it's there. Pure magic.
●Superb. As good as it gets.TY MUEZZAB for posting
●i am so excited to be sining this song in a couple of weeks :)
●amazing
●Perfection!!!
●Stahlberg did this on purpose. Like Solti's pacing, and the minimalist staging, we are invited into a whole new level of intimacy with the music. The opera is actually taking place inside us. In fact the stage is nearly empty and the singers tiny. We are being given OUR experience, we are not "going" to see something. That way Nozze is a seed planted inside us and it remains forever.
●I believe this woman is the greatest soubrette in history
●Not your ideal Susanna? This woman was BORN to sing Mozart, and it's a shame that most American houses are casting bigger voices to sing this part.
●My favorite Susanna ever. <333
●no this is Susanna, but the Countess and Susanna do switch places in this.
●Is she the role of 'Countess' in this?
●She died of brain cancer in 1994, I believe
●I'm learning this song for my next recital. It is so beautiful and has been so much fun to sing.
●Compare to another similar aria writen by JOSEPH MARTIN KRAUS (1756-1792): Concert aria - " Innocente donzelletta "
●Since you ask: both are admirable, vocally, musically, tecnically. Now, I am defintely more deeply moved by Battle. Why? More sensual perhaps? Misteries of art. Best regards!
●This is the first time I heard this song. I was actually looking for the opera singer who sang this song in the movie "Becoming Jane" her name is Lynda Lee, from Ireland but came across Lucia Popp. What happened to her? I see those below mentioning "had" and "we didn't deserve her".
●she makes is sound so easy! shes amazing
●This is the first Aria i ever learned. It always holds such a special place in my heart! and to hear it sung so lovely is wonderful

This was a live telecast in 1982 with Cecile Licad performing the Tchiakowsky Piano Concerto no. 1 in B flat minor with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Sir Georg Solti.
●you see jimmy hendrix set his guitar on fire, the who tearing up the stage, tons of artists stage diving, you see headbangers, crowdsurfers and what not... and you think her actions are retarded? If you ever played an instrument it s not that hard to understand. Ray charles is by far the most perfect exemple of this. His whole body and not just his mind moved with the music.
●Yes I played Argerich several times and I feel that Cecil's performance is superior.
●I'm seeing her perform live next Friday. Exciting!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
●Funny how people here are arguing who "the best " is. It's like arguing who the best tenor is, Domingo, Pavarotti, Caruso, etc. Hey, people, each one of these great musicians have their own opinion and thus interpretation of a piece, so they perform them differently. There is a great deal of collaboration between these soloists and the conductors too that happen behind the scene. They are all great musicians. Just enjoy their great talents and stop bitching.
●In order to revive her career, I think she should establish her own music festival - perhaps in Singapore (Manila would not be a good choice because it has not attained international recognition in music) or Spain - where she can invite fellow pianists and other musicians (some from the Philippines), and where she can showcase her pianism. Money is required here - perhaps the Zobel de Ayalas, Madrigals, Sy's, Tantocos, Tans, Villars, Lopez's and other Filipino billionaires are listening...
●why do these pianist suffer from retarded actions while paying piano syndrome
●Flawless except too much blush-on. How's that for music criticism?
●What has music to do with the size of the artist's boobs.....? You idiots. If you want porn, then switch channels....this is music.
●If you know her personally, tell her she needs silicon implants ...... so does Yuja Wang....... how come Asian women have such tiny breasts? Did they inherit their father's boob genes?
●but have you seen her nipples...mmm.
●You're right - "WAS" but not anymore. Her boobs are also very small.
● He/she is from Uranus (got it? -- "your anus")
●Search for "Lilya Zilberstein" here in youtube. She plays Tchai 2 with a Spanish orchestra.
●I also thougth nr 2 was the best, but I can`t find it!
●what does that have to do with you commenting on a video you dont want to watch?
●You don't know what you are talking about, so STFU.
●then watch a video of that piece than comment on this one?
●Tchaikovsky's no. 2 is better than this.
●She should learn the newly arranged Rachmaninoff Piano Concerto #5 (arranged by Alexander Warenberg, based on Rach's Symphony #2) -- it soooooooo beautiful!!!!
●Any idiot knows what "laos" means. Use the standard definition. BTW you sound like a kid who is just beginning to speak/write English. Your English sounds awkward.
●To:rayinexile Hey you punk ass bitch I can beat the shit Out of you any day so stop calling me names just because I observed you whore And I say back: Filthy mouth too....brrrrrrrrr .....Ahym so apreyd.

●no comment... hihetetlen
●eszméletlen volt mindenki énekelt :D beleborzongok még most is
●Happy music !!!

●Grande Wagner. Grandissimo. Sublime. To hell with sick anti-whatsoever they fuck. The art is great into lifting human souls. Lifting. Upwards. The God side. Not pushing down like the dark side of the arts uses to do. Wagner is music, Wagner is art. Like Don Antonio or Falla or Muszorszki or Dylan or Blind Will McNeil.
●Lovely singing, TY k for posting
●SIEG HEIL, SIEG HEIL, SIEG HEIL HEIL HITLER DEUTSCHLAND ÜBER ALLES
●joer, cada vez que oigo esto lloro. Es sublime.
●genial, muchas gracias.
●Simplemente sublime, maravilloso.....
●Lindo de morrer!!!
●¡maravilaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!
