●Close but not entirely true. The computer changed its control mode to air-to-air flight after the pilot had put his gear up. Since the pilot did not know that this would happen he thought there was a major malfunction and put the plane on the ground to protect both it and himself. The plane was in fact working just as it should and had he climbed the pilot would have found that there was no malfunction. The crash was caused by lack of communication between the engineers and the pilot.

●Its the first and only 5th generation fighter in production... its years before its time, its more of a prototype than a final product. Despite this: It will, and has, ripped apart any and all other jets in the A2A testing arena. Its faster, more agile, better equipped and more advanced in almost every way than Typhoons, F-16s, F-15s, F-18s, Rafales, Tornados... you name it, it beats it in A2A combat. The only downside is that its 4x the price of these other jets :p

●The reason why they made twin slanted rudders instead of conventional 90 degree tail rudders at all was to reduce radar signature on reflection. The trade-off being that you'll have two opposing tail fins that would be like having two opposite shaped fan blades or turbine blades. The tail rudders are NOT coplanar to each other. If you have a conventional 90 degree rudder then stealth would be impossible. Radar reflection would be inevitable. It's the same reason for slanted rudders on f-117.

Basic aerodynamics means only a small percentage of the torque provided is exerted to either elevate or depress the tail section of the plane. Less efficient and the rest of the torque is applied to tearing the plain apart.

Canards do indeed add to lift in the INITIAL part of a pitching moment, but they must quickly revert to applying DOWNFORCE on the nose to offset the inherent overpitching tendency of an unstable airframe. The opposite happens with an unstable wing-tail. In this case, the rear stabs apply lift after the initial pitching moment, adding to sustained turning ability.

●Actually the thrust vectoring makes it even simpler to stall them. Some thrust vector jets can hover above the ground with nose straight into the sky :D Because they use advanced auopilot support they can set the center of gravity more to the tail so the plane can maneuver better and faster. It also allows the pilot to force his aircraft in such stalls. Only with the computer's support a human can fly these jets - without them it would not be controlable!
