●its called a thumbpick. it's usually used in playing stuff like banjos, but i think he uses one so that he can both strum/pick and play fingerstyle at the same time
●For somebody who is learning how to play, this piece would be extremely difficult. Put simply, it's got a lot of advanced techniques in it. That said, as a person who plays mostly fingerstyle guitar and who has played for several years, this would be a learnable song for me.
