Yo-Yo Ma with Daniel Barenboim and the Chicago SO in this performance from 1997. This concerto will forever be associated with Jaqueline duPre, but YYM gives a performance that is beyond breathtaking.
●wow yo yo ma is truly great.
●Maybe that's because it hasn't been owned by any one person for quite some time. Kind of like "priceless art". I don't know. Inflated value is hard to gauge for one, but if it's truly worth that much now I'd be surprised.
●maybe in the 60s but i read an article last year about the davidov is worth millions!
●3.2 million is silly, where did you hear that? Pretty sure the Davidov cost 150k or so.
●He is using his Montagnana (Petunia) alot of people confuse it for his Stradivarius
●the 3.2 million dollar Davidov :D what a tone
●what cello was he using for this performance?
●Best performance of this piece, actually.
●chill. he was just saying that Ma deserves some recognition too
●I like to hear this when I want a peaceful interpretation, I listen to du Pre when I want a far more aggression, I listen to others when I want different moods.

●I love to see people so much in the moment that everything else slips away. It is only then that you can become 'one' with the music.
●27 thumbs up? Wow, can I get some thumbs up for my sexual comments too please? People did not use to talk like this. Let's sexualize it further and say he had to wipe his SPERM off his trousers after each concert. How do you like that? Now everyone praise my comment. Thank you!
●Ok , I shut up for you . But , I must say , I cannot really understand , how somebody (like you) could like AND Mrs. du Pré AND Mr.Ma . That is a mystery to me ....
●Really?? i love jackie and think she amazing... but dont you dare go off on yo yo ma he is amazing and one of my idols.. i know u have your own opinion but keep it to urself
●This touches my little heart]
●Awww yeah drop it like it's hot, Yo Yo Ma! My favourite part is 10 minutes in when he starts beatboxing.
●Excuse me , dear friend , but my highest enemy is not Mr. Ma , or you , but PRECISELY THIS IDEA OF "CYCLE" . I hate this concept beyond every limit . If du Pré is better , far much better , than Ma , and this is a fact , I am ABSOLUTELY not interested to like him because he is "from our time" or because "in the spotlight" now . What a shit !!! Hitler was ALSO "in the spotlight" in 1943 in Berlin ..... so what ??? Was he a hero or a criminal ? Don't go with this "main stream" it's addiction .
●Talent is talent you self-righteous tool. Jackie plays beautifully, no doubt, but the cycle continues and now it's Ma's time in the spotlight. Give the guy some credit and don't cloud your judgement on music like this, especially when it's played well regardless of who it's played by.
●He's good but this song is boring play old mc Donald
●Thank you . Stay in your main street ideology . Good dog .
●No one cares about your opinion
●it's 2012
●Of course , Jaquie is a pure goddess and this is a clown .
●Superficial . Elegant and empty .

●A truly beautiful piece of music. I am at once filled with both sorrow and pride when ever I hear it.
●Anyone here from Mantlegen's video?
●It brings tears into my eyes for almost 30 years already, so beautiful.
●Thanks. Just beautiful.
●This piece always gives me goosebumps!
●they played this to a friends recent funeral and it brings back sad memories. Very hard to listen to and not cry. A great piece of music written by a great English composer. God Bless.
●Which stately home? I've googled and can't find it. I would love to go! I cry every time I hear this and have never heard it live! It's heart wrenching!

●Im 12 and i just want to say something. Everyone who commented here has got the same idea. This "piece of art" has brought everyone together, long gone memories of your relatives have been thought of and many words have been said. This is the meaning of life as @Tridosu mentioned we are all 1 i have read a lot of books about religion most of them that we should treat someone in the same way you want you to be treated. ●Once, when Elgar had been very depressed and was about to give it all up and write no more music, Jaeger had visited him and encouraged him to continue composing. He referred to Ludwig van Beethoven, who had a lot of worries, but wrote more and more beautiful music. "And that is what you must do", Jaeger said and he sang the theme of the second movement of Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 8 "Pathétique". elgar ten started nimrod :)
●Isn't that just communism?
●This tune was my dads favourite, i remember sitting outside the room where he used to do his tailoring and listening to this, now he is gone, but the memory of him and music still lives on in my heart. Also it reminds me of how proud i am to be english.
●i heard this live and jizzed in my pants, true story.
●I am visiting one of Britain's most magnificent stately homes in Aug to hear this being played by the English Symphony orchestra while a single solitary Spitfire plane soars overhead - for my mum's 60th birthday. I am crying already just thinking about it! x
●You are not stupid. Your brilliance blinds you. Keep feeling your way along. I wish the best for you. I would be much more secure with my childrens' future if you were the mainstream. This song is remarkably beautifull.
●I'm just going to listen to the song and silently >feel.
●He is SUCH a Sir, it isn't even funny. Where does Talent like that come from? Aside from glorious, glorious music.
●Not exactly. If there's a cello solo in this song, as there is in the story, then i wouldn't assume as such. But since there is none, I assume that anyone looking for one either *wants* a cello solo in this song (or any song), or has read a story that explicitly states there *is* one where there isn't. Quick, grab my tuxedo! LOGIC!
●That is irrelevant to what I asked. (But yes.)
●can I assume you read Una Nota Dolce as well? I swear, my eyes are tearing up right now.
●Hey guys, my high school orchestra played this for a contest and it would be awesome if you could listen to it and leave a comment. (we're alot better than most high schools, very professional sounding in my own extremely bias opinion) It's here, tell me what you think :) /watch?v=cDM2Cq9J_LM

●"What are we holding onto Sam?" "That there's some good in this world Mr Frodo, and it's worth fighting for."

Beethoven - Sonata No. 14 C sharp minor Op. 27 No. 2
●the piano isn't 18 yet :'(
●I didn´t know that Jack Nicholson play so well ...
●Barenboim is not playing he is channeling Beethoven! you feel the music talking to you, incredible!!!
●The same for me (lo mismo digo)
●Barenboim started to sweat in 2:16
●No, no, no! It should be played as written!
●Bueno, el maestro en el piano fue el segundo , y como director creo qué hoy es numero uno, the best Op 57
●Im Just Fucking hate to see amazing videos with dislikes its just freakin me out
●great performance thank you>>>>>
●6:44 fantasie impromptu
●willhem kempf vs barenboim....
●They wanted the title to be Robert Paterson plays Twilight sonata
●8 minutes of my life lost, but definitely not wasted.
●Why do people always use the example of Justin Bieber?. It's clearly not great but music gets MUCH worse!
●Well played, but didn't feel like wanna watch him, I guess it's just me who doesn't like pianist with short fingers...
●Yo yo dra-culo in da house!
●The Human Abstract did it better -.-
●manifique
●When Barenboim dies, he will still be playing piano in heaven. God will insist on it!
●This is the best version. He manages to squeeze a lot of emotion into such a temptingly dry fast tempo. To be able to do both is quite impressive..
●Waaau, es simplemente genial y un honrado musico argentino!
●i have his cd of the entire moonlight sonata and the pathetiques ^w^

●Barenboim is a living legend. .
●I think he was pulling away some loose horse hairs I guess.
●5:32 - The best brass section in the world right there! Awesome!
●Outstanding! How to conduct professional musicians: give them a lead and allow them to play with gusto.
●Could this movement not suit this conductor anymore?!?! PURE GENIUS. and great players too! really amazing.
●I love this conductor. Also this piece. Not to mention the orchestra. And the composer. ....
●Okay thanks for clearing that up for me! :)
●I was in marching e played this as our Finale, only slightly faster cuz the wood winds wanted too....poor fuckers, I loved every second ov it.
●Gene Pokorny is the man.
●atleast now... . make this maniac in sri lanka. love this master piece !
●My high school just played this!!!!!
●Just played this in a concert!! (The triangle part isn't that hard) :DD
●CAN'T WAIT to the the New York Phil do this TONIGHT at the Disney Hall is Los Angeles. So excited!!!
●8:25 trumpet mullet hardcore
●Hermosoo...! yo toco eso en la berling toco Corno !!
●Taking a broken hair off the tip of his bow
●This is by far the best version of this piece I have EVER heard in my life, all 52 years of it! I agree about Barenboim's 'non-conducting.' I love the way he trusts the musicians to play without having to beat time for them and I agre with medpiano; great musicians like these don't need a human metronome. Thank you so much for posting this!
●What was he doing exactly?
●Goodness... on the brim of Prestissimo. clocked it at 170 at the end. If I were a string player, I would assume that my bowing shoulder is enormous, and my fingering forearm would be the size of Hellboy's.
●There's nothing I like to hear more than the phenomenal brass section of the CSO.
●140
●He looks like jack Nichelson at 7:03
●violin difficulty level : Asian
●:D>< thats what i was looking for!!!! fifty thumbs up for you!!!!!!!
●Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here = 0:11 to 0:13, then Bah, dah dah daaah daaaaah

Barenboim conducting the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in a stellar performance of Tchaikovsky's 4th Symphony in F minor for the opening concert of Carnegie Hall's 1997 season. Yes, that is the legendary
●Extraordinario inicio de los metales.
●This is why I'm proud to be a Chicagoin <3
●Yup, and it's better than sex too!!
●In other excellent news, check out Mark Ridenour's five-star mullet at 8:41.
●Yeah, CSO brass rocks; blah, blah blah. Everyone knows. But David McGill's decrescendo at 5:29 hits the spot for me - and I'm a horn player.
●Grande interpretação essa é uma de minhas sinfonias preferidas em todos os seus movimentos Tchaikovisk genio
●Yes that is the legendary Bud Herseth marshalling the CSO's incredible brass. Join the Facebook Group "Bud Herseth Deserves a Kennedy Center Honor."
●I can read bass clef, but what exactly is it you need help with? if you know the notes then surely you can read it? the treble scale is almost the same except the bottom note of the bass clef is an E instead of a C. Hope that helps? ^^
●wtf...
●Wow. This is better than sax.
●cbyo?
●dude i watched all of that and it was insaneia mate
●anyone read bass clef? so i have this for an audition and im trying to find my excerpt. ill give ya some notes, doubt yo can read em. here goes: cacdedcbflatafabflatcbflatagagfefedcsharp... and i bet nobody can help me, but if you do, i will love you forever!
●haha same. i have an excerpt as an audition its in freaking 2 days and im super nervous. D:
●Best String Bass part i have ever played!
●Fate always returns.
●DAT BRASS
●Anyone else think that Barenboim looks a bit like Anthony Bourdain?
●9:24 - I just jizzed in my pants......
●I always want to play the melody at 5:42 whenever everything is silent. 6:50 always reminds me of a circus--I think of an elephant on a tightrope for some reason and this is a bitch of a first bassoon part, but probably my favorite in all the repertoire
●I know right? I'm playing 2nd bassoon right now! it is awesome!
●great masterpiece :) the beggining .... :)))))

Buy Barenboim's the Goldberg Variations CD at: amzn.to Daniel Barenboim playing Aria from Goldberg Variations by Johann Sebastian Bach.
●I'm used to Gould, but I'd rather have Barenboim. Barenboim brings the Bach, while Gould brings himself. He's one flamboyant guy, I own plenty of his interpretations and have heard him hum off-key and mutter lullabies and pant for breath as he played and turn this way and that, stooping over with his nose to the keys. While those are indeed smooth performances, Barenboim's refreshed me more, I find it more precious because of its honesty and delicacy. "Beauty is truth, truth beauty," -Keats
●Barenboim does his Beethoven beautifully. His Brahms is sublime. Hell, even his Mendelssohn and Schubert are great. I think this interpretation is OK. I'd infinitely rather Glenn Gould, though. No one does Bach better than he ever did.
●Oh please learn some english, fuck face.
●you are an stupid person. I can have one opinion and for me this is not bach. It's very far than the sound of harpchicord it's tooomuch romantic like chopin. You can say nothing, it's only my opinion and stop. If you like play without mistakes only, probably tou don't are a good musician. You could read moore about bach and about how must interpretate this music in the style and in the time...
●Yeah, I am sure you can do it at least 5 times better, superman. He does no mistakes, sings it perfectly. You don't like it, you don't like bach's song. Simple.
●I think, bach is moore deep than this interpretation... sorry, this is not bach...
●for me a disruption in the flow at about 58 seconds .
●Maybe if he puts pedal here, it means organ... And the organ is one of the richest musical intruments... I know Bach created his music when the pedal didn't exist, but mainly, Bach was organist... Also, he created music for many, many instruments - in the piano point of view it would be wrong to put pedal (this view is kind of narrow, but this is only what I think), but in the meaning of Bach's music, overall (not only for piano), maybe it is not wrong to put pedal... (Excuse my english...)
●No one can tell how to play Bach exactly! And also Bach has much more than one face!
●69 people consciously hit "dislike" Another 1,372 fell asleep, and their foreheads hit "like" I can't account for the rest.
●Thanks for the info. Well I understand is up to the interpreter to play the work as he feels it and innovate if he wants to but personally I didnt like this intepretation much. Has to be said also I do prefer hapsicord to piano for Bach or Scarlatti works.
●Hahhaha that's okay.. Pedal raise the dampers in the piano, which means the tone will continue ringing until you release the pedal. Bach wrote music before the pedal even existed, it's MADE to be played without. That's the beauty of Bach's music, it's clean voices and not bunch of muddering harmonies.. To use pedal on Bach is a NO-NO-NO! I believe Barenboim didn't have the technique not to, otherwise it is simply the worst interpretation idea ever...
●Excuse my ignorance...but what does the pedal do exactly?
●I just remind myself all the time how Glenn does it better.
●3:16 up and down goes the pedals i fall asleep
●OMG THIS IS SO INTENSE ILL NEVER BE ABLE FALL ASLEEP THIS MY JAMMMM. -_-
●Pedals it's just to do like organs. That was the lovely instrument for bach...
●Arghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Barenboim, you are horrible at Bach...... I'm SORRY, but please stick to your Beethoven!! How could you pedal this beautiful aria, this work of gods, this masterpiece!! NO pedal at Bach, seriously, *"NO PEDAL AT BACH"* ever!
●@colourfulwithaU There is a great film on release at the moment. It is called CARNAGE, and I do believe that you, @colourfulwitha and you, @TheObsidianDust, would benefit greatly from seeing it. It concerns the parents of two teenagers, who have a marked difference of opinion about something or other. The parents, ever anxious to point out how civilised they are, go 'balistic'.... Anyway, Go and see for yourselves... Then, come back ,and talk about differences of opinion...
●I don't understand how that qualifies me as stupid when I have met so many people who do think that their opinions are facts. I am happy to know that you are not one of them because plenty of people who leave comments on youtube pages are. That wasn't really the point of my comment but whatever....
●@TheObsidianDust When I assert my opinion, I'm not obliged to qualify it with 'this is just my personal opinion', because it's implied. You're right, it's not an objective statement, it is a personal preference. But if you think I think otherwise, you must be very stupid. : )
●that is a ridiculous assertion... the interpretations are different and if you like Gould's better, then great but that is not an objective statement it is a personal preference. If everyone played it just like Gould then the piece would become void of spiritual meaning. Different people interpret a piece of music differently and that is what is wonderful about music such as Bach. It begs for new interpretation.
●Beautiful, but Gould does it better. Barenboim plays this like it was written in 1840 instead of 1740.

●FABULOUS music FABULOUS conducting ~ thank you!

Gracias!
