●this is the future of planes
●A plane with rockets? badass
●FAIL
●I don't think Chinooks have the same range
●Even though the project ended in disaster, i marvel at the ingenuity. Even as a Brit, i applaud the Americans for finding opportunity in calamity where we Brits sadly like to find calamity in every opportunity. The state of our nation testifies to that. Thanks for the vid!
●great..
●Does he fly in space :D :D
●1980? wow looks futuristic~! too bad its 360p but very nice vid~! Thanks
●iran is a country of stank fags....ha ha
●thats badass. just thought everyone should know
●NOT a fake??? WOW its very cool (if its not a fake)
●that's some serious Thunderbirds shit right there
●dear santa...
●ac 130 above :o
●You dream, you do it...whether it will be success or failure, only time tells. Hats off to US & Her citizens for daring to dream, you guys rock.
●Franken Plane...looks cool
●It worked fine. Just poor timing on the last test run..
●why not just use a V-22 Osprey. They provide a fast vertical take-off and move as fast most aircraft (however I do not know when this story takes place and the V-22 wasn't field operational until 2007)
●So this is why they designed the Bell Boeing Osprey
●It would of worked.,
●thats too bad, such awesome technology gone in one fell swoop
●those 72 virgins you guys get are gunna be world of warcraft players
●Dear Santa.....
●Heavy metal, explosions, and planes. OH FUCK YEAH AMERICA
●cool....! there should be a movie about this event, somebody call Michael Bay!, NO Wait, i dont wanna see this plane converted into an autobot.

●You're a fucking moron.
●I think you're being trolled. I HOPE you're being trolled!
●燃えたかと思った、、、
●Those are not chemtrail dispensers. the plane is literally being launched into the air with the thrust of an atlas rocket. At this point in the launch/takeoff the propellers
●0:04 wow I didn't know they had chemtrail dispensers even on the propeller tips.
●@waggable Furries can't handle the awesomeness.

●*taildroop* WHO thought this would be a good idea?? *facepaw*
●honestly i think this project should proceed, one error should be corrected to make the whole concept a sucess!!!
●Damn, talk about crashed and burned!
●I was there nothing wrong with what the pilots did. Rockets were wired wrong forward firing rockets were supposed to fire after downward firing rockets . Downward firing rockets fire first to slow decent rate then forward rockets to stop aircraft. Wires were crossed during installation. So when they flipped the switch wrong rockets fired and plane stalled. Also remember this was designed and modified during a two week period. Program was not stopped due to the accident because the hostages we
●1:35 Maybe if the damn pilot would've been correctly leveled with the ground , the plane wouldn't have been destroyed so badly.

●Where were these tests conducted?
●well, the idea WAS good
●1:08 holy CRAP
●I saw a documentary on this plane. It was a C130 modified to land and then take off from a soccer field ( maybe 150 meters). This accident happened cos the pilot started the bosster brake too early, so the airplane has stopped but was still at 5 -7 meters above the ground. It fell down crushing itself.....
●Damn quick take off!!!
●I'd like to meet the genius that thought that one up (the landing part). They may not have destroyed the plane if they had fired the vertical JATO bottle after the deceleration ones. But really, what were they thinking????
●Stop smoking crack little Ching Chong!

I have seen this video several places, many don't tell the story behind it, and many seem to have it wrong. Operation Credible Sport, also known as Operation Honey Badger, was a United States military
●If you can't find anything on this, you certainly didn't look very hard. There are links in the video description. ;)
●Hey did any of the pilots die in this? I can't find anything about it.
●Yes and no. IIRC It at least partly worked in the tests. However after the mishap flight; I think the plug was pulled on the project. I don't think it was ever used in operations. However a relative of this project is still in service. The RATO (rocket assisted takeoff) versions are still in service. IIRC The reverse thrust braking rocket and cushioning rocket concept was abandon after this failure.
●So, barring the one crash I have to ask, did it ever actually work?
●Just as North Korea exploited Carter s and Clintons weakness and naivety to get the nuclear bomb. The peaceniks have made the world a much more dangerous and hostile place. I find it ironic that political activists nominate Clinton and Carter for Nobel peace prizes; when in fact their contributions to North Korea and other such compromises have made the world a much more dangerous and violent place. Like Reagan said; trust but verify, and Ill add, carry a big stick.
●Reynard13Fuchs: Youre not being honest, the biggest reasons that the Iranians made a 12th hour deal is that Reagan barked, and Reagan had a history of backing his bark with actions. The Iranians made a 12th hour deal to try to avoid serious consequences for taking hostages. Instead they brokered a deal with Carter that essentially rewarded the Iranians for taking the hostages. Carters weakness and incompetence and willing to compromise was exploited by the terrorists.
●@flyfish3434: "all Reagan had to do was bark" Uhh, more like recite the Oath of Office, in other words, Reagan did NOTHING. Look up the Algiers Accords, because THAT is what released the hostages.
●The History channel does the best they can with the info they are given.
●InzuDraRagna: It looks like the altitude may have been too high; but definitely the rockets that were meant to cushion the landing (downward facing rockets did not fire at all). Ive heard both claims that that was the crews error or a malfunction that prevented those rockets from firing. At this time Im not sure which.
●InzuDraRagna: the History Channel is awesome; however theyre not always correct. You ought to take a closer look at the video and do a little a little better research. Im not entirely sure what the facts are because there are many conflicting claims. It seems the narration in this video is wrong and that perhaps the history Channel was somewhat wrong.
●I just say this on the Destroyed in Seconds show. No one was hurt according to it... If this actually worked, it would have been badass! XD
●The rockets did fire prematurely I watched a History channel program on it. and it was at 20 feet. NOT 60 or 80 feet flyfish3434.
●20 people injured? How is that? I thought only the basic flight crew was on board and that no one on the ground was injured.
●There were a series of rocket on the aft of the plane designed to get it airborne in a matter of feet. If you find the functional take-off video, the plane is wheel's up within 15 feet, and at approx. 300 feet altitude within 100 feet forward distance. It would easily clear out of a stadium, but luckily, they never needed to find out for sure, as the terrorists released the hostages the same day Reagan was elected.
●ParaglidingManiac: Possibly. Im not sure. Ive heard some debate about that. I think it was right on time, but the altitude may have been slightly high; though Ive heard some say it was the exactly the right altitude. There still seems to be some debate within the community.
●Arroy624: Incorrect. Look again. On the mishap landing the cushioning rockets did not fire. I think there is either a technical malfunction or the copilot or engineer/navigator who is tasked to fire the rockets didnt cue the cushioning rockets. (Ive heard both stories and Im not sure which is true at this time)
●weren't brake rockets started too early?
●the rocket did fire at the right time... except the maneuver was not at the right altitude.
●Freaking incredible.
●I thikn they would have made it. But doubt they would have made it out.
●Wow that sucks, that's some pretty intense fire.
●ah yes, of course
●rgr = Roger = yes = affirmative
●Sorry, I don't understand what that means.

Operation Credible Sport was a United States military aircraft modification plan in late 1980 to prepare for a second rescue attempt of the hostages held in Iran using C-130 cargo planes modified with
●That op was a clusterf**k before it ever got off the ground and things only got worse. Out of that disaster and the Grenada disaster, SOCOM was born.
●Um.. The Sikorsky CH-53..... Herp Derp... The Boeing CH-47C.... Herp Derp....
●Jet assisted takeoff? I just saw another documentary where they said it was rockets, not jets.
●That is the most wonderful thing I have ever seen.
●to bad they're getting rid of the MH53s........ They are a boat load more quiet that the ospreys.
●considering the plane is like 130 feet long id say 150 is far ahead of amazing.. flt medic have you not seen the capabilities of a mh53? they dont land slow.. 'but it would have taken 3 to do the job
●considering the plane is like 130 feet long id say 150 is far ahead of a mazing
●i don't think they're gonna fly a chopper into a stadium a v22, llike all choppers, descends at a slow speed to land and during the landing it'll be shot to kingdom come and will be in no condition to rescue anybody speed is the key for counter terrorism and hostage rescue as well as good planning i'm not saying that i'm a expert in this but i think this should be common sense
●theres just something about strapping rockets on huge hunks of metal and making them fly...
●Where I work, maintaining C-130s is our bread and butter. And this video is just awesome.
●now only if they could put this on an AC-130 and it would be incredible
●"Less then 150 feet" Thats just insane for that size of a plane..
●I might further note I was so equally convinced on the idea of pounding the crap out of Iran that in fall '79 I enlisted in the US Navy as an aviation fire control technician so I could paint my name on the first bomb to send the ayatollah to allah. Shiped off to basic in Dec 79 , spent 4 years working on Phantoms on the USS coral sea helping send TU-95 Bears and their nukes back to the USSR. That was common, they sent armed bombers toward our airspace to see what we'd do!
●I think we're exactly on the same page (regarding the attempt) keep in mind my additional comments are merely conspiracy theory speculation.
●You're entitled to your opinion, but I think the disaster in the desert was embarassing enough-the tragedy of loss of life not withstanding. It was a rather desperate attempt with little real chance of success. Carter should have simply given Iran a deadline to release the hostages and if it wasn't met, pounded the living crap out of the country. I believe that's what Reagan planned to do when he was elected and I believe that's why Iran got smart and released the hostages.
●The problem was that the rockets would fire to early and the wings would break. please correct me if im wrong
●The whole thing was a very short term answer to a frustrating situation. It was brilliant in concept but flawed in execution. Still, if they could do this in 1980, what can they do now? Remember, back in 1980 cell phones were basically non-existent, home computers were in the 64K range and used cassettes for memory, and most cables on TVs were power cords.
●It was a bad idea. Okay so just how the hell was a team of commandos just going to walk into teheran and take on the whole city and get 52 yahoos that had spent a year in cells onto a plane in the first place? I think the accident in the desert was intentional, prolly put a CIA spook or two on board and bit the bullet for the country rather than go through with the embarrassing attempt.
●practically a VTOL Herc. scary
●thats a good fucking question
●Now to slap that baby on a B-52 or a 747! :D
●to far and can't carry as many people

This video shows yet again that the 150, 000 pound C-130 needs a softer landing gear--either tracks or an Air Cushion Landing System (ACLS) so it can land without need of hard, prepared runways as sta
●We all know what they're all secretly saying "haha, let's do it again!"
●0:26 "run no one will realise"
●pretty sure it costs many times that much
●are you kidding? More like 50 million.
●propfans? they have different engines that are more powerful and effecient, 6 bladed composite props that are lighter, and a computer controlled prop pitch that also adds to the effiency. Furthermore the external tanks create drag and hold roughly 16k lbs of fuel each which create more of a burden than there worth in terms of fuel consumption when the Js have more range than a E or H modle without them... and yes they can be jettisoned but no bombs there look at MOAB
●goodbye 2.5 million dollars
●Enemy AC-130 Destroyed.
●Chances are they repair it. Good way for the flight crew's to train lol
●nobody does chicken like KFC
●Lmao.
●Ahhh typical MN Air NAtional Guardsman. jk bad luck...
●you just made my night
●it can be repaired but despite the little damage it will be costly
●more like " FUCK YALL IM OUT OF HERE!!"
●normally in the movies and even in the series the plane explodes after a crash.

●hahahahahaha fuckin stupid jarhead faggit tools.
●they are fuel tanks...
●why have missiles when you drop 20 ton bombs anyways?
●Yea my dad flew these and im just glad that did not happen to him haha
●But one thing is sure about the americans and that is if they could they sure as hell would..
●there goes $20,000,000
●a bit of duct tape and it'll fly again
●they are external fuel tanks to extend the aircrafta flight time.
●I don't understand why the pilot didn't just turn off all for engines when he crossed the numbers, and shut-off the fuel, could have saved the engines... at least everyone made it out okay.

The Piasecki PA-97 Helistat was an American experimental heavy-lift aircraft, built by Piasecki by fastening four obsolete helicopters to a framework beneath a helium blimp. The PA-97 was built under
●well... if americans are stupid enough to buy such a crappy thing, that´s what they deserve LOLOL
●what ? who is responsible for such a stupid construction? as if we wouldn´t have 100 years of experience in flying.... this idea is so random, just like an infantile idiot "hey guys, i got a cool idea, I´m going to screw 4 helicopters to a blimp" and everybody "wow, that´s cool"
●Could have been a worse mistake, H H H,
●Wow. This thing looked like it was throws together without any care or due thought. And it obviously was. But the uploader obviously has no idea what he's talking about. The HAVs (Not blimps) shouldn't be disregarded. They make sense for a myriad of reasons, and are not just blimps anyway. The tech is far more advanced / safe / not thrown together with duct tape and bubble gum.
●As a teenagerI remember reading an artical in the early 80s about this contraption. I was skeptical the thing would work given the torque and gyro effects of all those spinning blades and the flimsy framework. It failed worse than I predicted it would.
●This system has not comparisons to that of the modern hybrid airships. The modern systems can be unmanned and they also have better computational control systems and do not require helicopters for control.
●Omg, what idiot designed this, must be someone who has never heard of resonance and natural frequencies of constructions. I hope he was kicked out, never to work in engineering again, what an idiot!!!
●POCZATKUJACY KONSTRUKTORZY-TO JEST POMYSL MALYCH DZIECI-BEZMUZGI!!!!!!!!!!!

●It look like Ground Resignation that took out the engine. The vibration must have been bad.
●Are you suggesting they were planning on carrying tons of forest goods over Afganistan?
●The concept for Welding Choctaw 34's was an American defence idea nothing to do with the UK. The UK won the contract to build large Airships that transport military equiptment. The UK isn't daft to make a piece of shit like that. The uploader is giving misinformation.
●You just can't mix blimp's and helicopters' DNA
●It was engineered by Peter Griffin and it was a Hommer Simpson Idea !
●Meanwhile in 1980, before common sense wasn't invented...
●this was the worst aviation disaster in lakehurst nj since the Hindenburg disaster. I live in nj and near Lakehurst. but I was not born to see any of those disasters.

●is their any Airship/Helicopter hybrids like this that actually work?
●, Thats what crazy glue is for...
●What a horrible abomination to aviation

Video clip from the US Department of Defense of flares fired by two US Marine Corps (USMC) KC-130 Hercules aircraft (VMGR-234) in Iraq. The visualization of the wingtip vortices, sometimes called "ang
●...really..REALLY...are you that stupid? That IS a KC130. Having spent 12 yrs and 5000hrs on that plane I think I know..and having been a member of that squadron (VMGR-234)...I'm positive that that is a KC-130 Hercules. The inboard 'pods' are fuel tanks, they hold 9000# each. The outboard pod hold 120' of refueling hose. Get a clue...damn air force. The Gunny!!
●I wish my car could do this when people ride my ass on the road. Just imagine.
●AC-130= (assault) cannons on the side KC-130= refueler C-130= cargo a-assault b-bomber c-cargo e-electronic warfare k-fuel r-reconnaissance m- idk, lol L- arctic operations the KC-130 has up to 2 enormous fuel tanks inside the actual cargo area. the ext fuel tanks aren't meant for other planes. The MC-130 is what drops spec ops, not the AC-130, because there's not really that much room.
●ac-130
●isn't it called AC-130?
●i don't know but i've just disliked your comment... that was an accident,... really sorry though... but you are right with your statement... :) (trying to get the red hand off)
●There is NO WAY those are KC-130's.... I work on the KC-135... thats a refueler. people who say that the pods at the end of the wings someone called "in-flight refueling reels".. those are actualy called MPRS (Multi-point refueling system) this aircraft has whats called.... "external tanks" they hold extra fuel. it has nothing to do with refueling other jets.
●those two planes are having sex xD
●The KFC was a joke. He's saying that they're carrying a load of chicken from the Colonel.
●Angels of Death. No sight is better.
●stop it - its usless - let them life in there cod-world, any second is wasted, some people not even see the difference between c130 and ac130 - GOT DAMNED a AC130 HAS FUCKING CANNONS AT THE SIDE!!!! just my 5 cent
●Wrong again. Any cargo plane can carry troops. KC-130 is a refueler and cargo plane, not a gunship. Those pods towards the end of the wings carry in flight refueling reels. If you've ever seen the inside of an AC-130 you'd know that there isn't a lot of room in there to carry stuff when it's loaded with weapons and ammo on station it's going to be carrying ammo and weapons not cargo. BTW I work on KC-130Ts on a daily basis so I have some knowledge on the subject.
●the only differences between an ac-130, a kc-130 and a c-130 is whats in the inside and whats its purpose. an ac-130 stands for ATTACK CARGO which means its a vehicle cargo plane and a gunship. a kc-130 is a troop carrier and gunship.. a c-130 is just a cargo plan
●Ramirez! Take down those two C-130s with your throwing knife!
●nice air show :D
●Those are defiantly NOT AC- or KFC- (whatever those are lol) 130s. Those are KC-130Ts. Those two in the video are actually from my current unit.
●okay, dont buy life insurance because its your money.
●omfg -.- AC... google up f f s!
●you lose any altitude like a skirt, hit the deck balls to the wall and hope for fighter cover
●damn this is so amazing.
●AC-130
●In Iraq they were having trouble with the Phalanx defense systems locking onto incoming friendly aircraft. When they would lock onto our birds, the aircraft would automatically deploy countermeasures. There were a couple of times when all of a sudden the sky above was full of flares. Was cool but scared the shit out of ya cuz u could hear the planes but had no idea where they were cuz they landed under blackout.
●There is nothing angelic about war. War is dirty. but when other people threaten America's security, we have to go in and straighten things out. America has to show that we are the most dominant force in the world. We aren't just going to stand by and let all of those towel heads kill our innocent people. AMERICA FUCK YEAH!

Description On Dec. 9, 1999, a CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter, with 18 people on board, crashed while attempting to land on the Navy tanker PECOS (T-AO 197) during a training exercise. The chopper's land
●Negligence???
●Rip marines.
●Well the safety net wasn't that safe for a heli. Rip to the marines and sailor that died
●Yes! Yes! Im gonna make it... Holy Shit!!!!!!
●O shit!!
●The netting and railing is to help sailors and crewman get back onto the deck if they slipped and fell, and they would have something to grab onto.
●Whats with the railing/netting at the edge of it? Surely the Navy personnel know what would happen, if a heli gets caught in it? That happens ^ But RIP those 7 men lost in this tragic accident. My condolences to the families of those lost.
●shit... man
●Imagine what it must be like to crash into the ocean. It's dark, cold, scary, surrounded by a metal "cage." Struggling to get free, only to be drug to the depths of the ocean. RIP those who died / were affected by the crash.
●wow i cant believe the safety net took the wheel and eventually the whole chopper.
●Did anyone see that dude head was sticking aut the windon whale the helicopter was trying to land on the ship
●holy shit,, thats horrible! thank god for those who survived, and my condolences to the families who lost someone! thats such a big BIRD to land on a boat!
●Thats not hte pilot .Its the crew Cheif
●And......FUCK
●You can obviously see that it got snagged, ironic, killed by a safety net
●Shit, you can see the pilot despretally trying to climb out before it hit the water. RIP all that died in this tragedy.
●darn.. poor guys
●7 died 12 were rescued
●so they .. didnt survive?
●All were reported missing and now presumed dead after their CH-46 helicopter got tangled with the netting on the USNS Pecos and the pilot lost control and was pitched upside down into the pacific ocean off Point Loma, CA
●that was scary
●killed were James Paige, William Dame, Jay Asis, David Galloway, Vince Sebanstenski, Jeff Starling and Mark Baca
●can we say opps
●I've heard that pilots hate the Sea Knight. Is that true? Also is this why the boats were following the ship?
