●Someone mentioned some months ago that they would have loved to have lived in Bach's time just to hear this piece live, and based on what I know and have read...no you don't. It's good to read about, and educate oneself about how he lived his life, how difficult it was, and how he was able to write such incredible music that wasn't appreciated then as it is now, and the reader is able to know all these things while enjoying modern day luxuries.

●I learnt to play this on the local church pipe organ near where I lived when I was small... damn great fun it was playing it at my cousin's wedding sitting next to the organist after the vows had been affirmed... it was worth it just to see about 70-80 odd guests with extremely shocked expressions on their faces... expecting some cheap love song for newlywed exit music... instead they had to put up with ten minutes of this...

But yeah, I agree that it's shallow to think that you can attribute the identity of the individual to their age, skincolor, ethnicity, culture, religion, country of origin. I for one don't consider any of those factors to be at all important to who I am.

I think Bach has a grasp of the intricacy of the harmony unfolding at the centre of the universe whereas Beethoven is the more turbulent soul. I love them both.
