●its called a thumbpick. it's usually used in playing stuff like banjos, but i think he uses one so that he can both strum/pick and play fingerstyle at the same time
●For somebody who is learning how to play, this piece would be extremely difficult. Put simply, it's got a lot of advanced techniques in it. That said, as a person who plays mostly fingerstyle guitar and who has played for several years, this would be a learnable song for me. It would probably take me a week or two to learn it, and weeks of practice in order to be able to play it well, but i'd never be able to play it as good as this
