- A tribute to the Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau aka The Makaha Sons - "I'll Remember You." - Séquentiel en hommage au groupe des anciens "Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau" intitulé "I'll Remember You." Music & Words
●I can play and sing along to this with my uke. I think I had to listen to this one 10.000 times to find the chords and now I have it. And it still sounds as beautiful as the first time. What a magnificent interpretation of a beautiful song, dont know exactly why but I really love this. Mahalo Iz and the Makaha Sons RIP Iz Star of Gladness
●Really, an outstanding fine rendition with feeling..thank`s for that... greetings and regards
●no problemo.....
●OMG. This is one of my favorite songs by my favorite Hawaiian composer Kui Lee. I have never heard it recorded in such a beautiful manner. To the person who posted this: thank you, thank you, thank you!
●Just saw the Makaha Sons @ Thunder Valley...they were as awesome as ever! This was their last song (and then the hana hou). Thanks for posting.
●beautiful!!!
●from me to you Brandi Thomas, USAF
●Iz was, and is, loved by everyone who ever heard, saw, or knew him. He had the biggest heart, showed unconditional love for all, and is missed and still loved by so many of us. Mahalo for posting!
●Upon return from Nam 1970 - met DONNA. We went to Disneyland and the evening dinner theatre (?) where HA boy & girl sang this song as duet. Lordy! that was beautiful & I fell hopelessly in love with Donna. Alas! That was not to be but for 6 months or so. It still was a beautiful moment that I remember to this day. Does anyone else remember the Disneyland dinner theatre and the duet version of this song?
●WOW! Even more help..... :) TYSM! :)
●I keep comin back here. TYSM!! for all the help. :)
●Love you Unko Iz
●In the early 70's he was part of a group called the Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau, he didn't go solo till about 1993. This song is from the album Ho'oluana, by the Makaha Sons Of Ni'ihau. Any old CD's or albums that have Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau, are with IZ. When they broke up, IZ went solo, that's what you've been hearing, but before 1993, you need to search for Makaha Son's on Ni'ihau CD's. The other 3 members became the Makaha Sons. So those CD's don't include IZ after 1993.
●fantastic, why havent i heard this guy iz before now,
●I love the ones like Star of Gladness, Ka Paua U'i, E Ala E, Maui Medley etc, so I am going to keep looking ty :))
●People will search for Israel Kamakawiwo'ole, but not sure if all the albums he made with The Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau will come up in their search. They made quite a few albums before IZ went solo. You need to search for Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau, that group includes IZ. When they broke up, IZ went solo, and the others became just the Makaha Sons. Two songs on youtube I've seen so far are He touched Me, Rusty Old Steampipes. Search for them and make sure you add Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau.
●I have bookmarked all of IZ's music I can find on here and yep I have White Sandy Beach for a while now. And WOW Thanks for all the info I really appreciate it tysm :)
●This version is from the Album entitled Ho'oluana, performed by the Makaha Sons Of Ni'ihau. IZ was with this group for about 20 years, married one of the member's sister. His brother Skippy, formed the group along with some friends. Makaha was where his ashes were scattered. Search for this song to download. Also listen to Mehameha/White Sandy Beach from that same album.

●OMG! what a beautiful song. i love the way he talk, what a sweet person............Beautiful person, voice, song and yes i agree you can tell he had a BEAUTIFUL HEART. *^_^*
●Beautiful harmony, beautiful lyrics, beautiful man. Can't watch this without crying.
●I really wish i could download this song. :(
●This is one of my favorite albums of the Makaha Sons Of Ni'ihau. For those searching for IZ, he played in this group which they founded in the early 70's. So if you can find more of the Makaha Son's of Ni'ihau albums, they include IZ. When he went solo, the other 3 became the Makaha Sons. Those albums are without IZ. I can play this CD and put it on replay shuffle, and listen to it for hours. Not one of those CD's that have only one good song on them. Mehameha/White Sandy Beach is my favorite.
●Magnifique interprétation
●OMG!! Beautifull!! WOW!!!

Merrie Monarch 2008 Hula Halau O Kamuela Kumu Hula: Kaui Kamana'o & Kunewa Mook Wahine Kahiko: "Aia I Ni'ihau Ku'u Pawehe" 1st Place
●hula halau o kamuela love!!!
●Do you have their auana from this year? I think they did Na'ale o Ni'ihau.
●She's actually been dancing for this halau for many years.
●This is amazing. anyway, Feel free to view my channel. I have uploaded a 10 part Japanese Hawaiian Hula performance
●way to go bradah! awesome vid.
●awesome !!!!!
●maika'i ka wahine!!! cheee pono!!!
●I spotted a girl in the 2nd row with what seemed like she had the shortest hair of the halau. Probably means she is a newbie; what an honor that she gets to dance in the 2nd row and perhaps hasn't danced there as long as the others.
●I loved this! I wish I could find the song it's so beautiful. :)
●Thank you "alina885" for posting this video. This is a remarkable performance of the dancers and a great impression to the Hawaiian culture.
●Amazing
●right on man some people in the mainland does not know even anything about hawaii and they get shocked when they see something beautiful as this mahalo
●at the beginning of the video the two announcers are giving an explanation of what the mele is about. Ka'i is to what they enter. Ho'i is to what they exit. Mele is song. Oli is chant. So if you watch the beginning , you will see the names of the ka'i they enter with, ho'i is name of chant they exit with, oli is what they are chanting, and mele is what they are dancing to.
●What name of song?!
●I just love how they chant and dance! It's so graceful! And I live in Hawaii.
●There is a Hawaiian lady in my area that bellydances in addition to being fairly accomplished in her hula. I thought it was a weird mix since the Middle East is SO far from Hawai'i, but lots of the movements are really similar. Bellydancers do a welina movement, but theirs is rapidly successive instead and is used as the main movement instead of an accent like the welina. Oh, and I love how this halau often with exits with a simple "E". It's very feminine and a little mysterious.
●Excellent!!
●I feel like they are absolutely PERFECT! Even their heights are all the same. Absolutely synchronized. Not to mention very skilled at the dance. Beautiful!! My favorite dance of theirs! :D
●kunewa mook is awesome maika'i inoa
●To those who don't know hula, there are different steps, this is the Welina, as stated by Kumu Hula Pua. It's done by alternating feet to tap floor forward, to the side, then lift and twist on the stationary foot. What makes this hula impressive is to be doing this step all the way. You should try it. Now try doing the hand movements. Now try doing it in unison with the halau, hands here, face this way, change formation, stay in lines, chant, 27 girls its easy to see a mistake, very IMPRESSIVE!
●they arent smiling, do you see them smiling?
●this is a polynesian dance
●Fabulous footwork and hand and arm extensions, the synchronizations are just amazing! Great hula, wahine's!
●thats one of my favorite foot steps the ke welina. i love this halau! proud to dance with them!!!!!!
●Grace and beauty.

●Most people agree they did just fine :-)
●You are right Bay Flow! That is Roland Cazimero along with Mel Amina, Iz's cousin. Iz just got out of the hospital that day and he had a concert and played great!! They all did! They only practiced once up in his hospital room the day before. Good musicians just know how to get the job done.,
●DUDE! That guitarist is Roland Cazimero! Look up Brothers Cazimero. They are probably one of the longest musical acts in Hawaii. Roland just didn't bring much into it since he was backing up Iz. Plus, he uses a 12 string.
●muito bom!!!
●music feed the soul. Thank you Iz'
●Didn't sound out of tune to me. o.o Sounded like he just can't sing as high as Iz, so he was lower. Haha. But that's just me!
●bro your such a troll how many videos are you going to post the same shit.
●Does it really matter how people look? Israel is a wonderful artist and person, that have blessed us all with his wonderful voice. You should learn to appreciate people for who they are, not how they look.
●Bello Iz! Che Dio sia con te!
●Is it just me or did this guitarist not only slip up on his little solo but also seems to be singing out of tune?
●God I want to learn Hawaiian!! Iz I love your voice!!
●Iz is the greatest!
●I have this video and watch often ...
●Glad to see someone uploaded this performance again! Could you by any chance upload the rest, if you have it? I'd love to see it again...aloha braddah

For those of you who only know about this song through Pearl Jam's truncated tribute, Brudda Israel Kamakawiwo'ole and the Makaha Sons of Niihau break it down so thoroughly, that even a haole like you
●Its how the Haoles did it, thats the point of this song. They overthrew our queen, democracy my ass.
●what do u think Captain Cook was? Haole.
●Hilarious! The plantations was here because of da Haoles that first came, LOL
●Would you rather have been taken over by Japan, or another Asian country who only wanted to enslave your people, and force them to work on plantations? That was the direction this island was heading before the "haole" showed up...
●There are a few flaws in your theory here. 1st of all, while praising King Kamehameha for "uniting" the islands (By killing any and all natural born people living there who were against him, ever heard of the PALI Lookout?), you spin the song to bad mouth the "haole" who came here and peacefully changed the direction of the island. Is it sad that the culture has suffered? Yes it is, but this is the case throughout the world when progress happens. It's everyone's job to preserve culture...
●Aloha pumehana.....
●Aloha! OK, I understand, I am from Puerto Rico. With out armies we are stuck. But what we can do is calmly promote our true selves and cultures. Somehow, with all due respect, Hawaii has not made a "presence" mainland, the Caribbean has though. How can we promote this??? I am all for it. When offended and hurt we tend to withdraw. I say, launch a massive counter response. Do not compromise. Get HI TV into the mainland, Merrie Monarch, send Halau and Kumu by the droves, advertise here. Aloha
●A haole is a non- Polynesian/Hawaiian. It is not always meant to be a bad word, but some times it is used like the "N" word in the States. I am "Haole" because I am Latino. You have to understand that these beautiful peoples and their culture and religion, as did mine, came under terrible persecution and destruction at the hands of Europeans / "Christians". Thank God we all survived. I feel very close. Maybe shared persecution. If you love this culture, ALOHA is in your heart. Aloha'oe
●By the way, I am a haole, Latino. My Kumu Pop-Pop also, and it is he who taught us about the beauty of all Polynesian peoples and culture. I have a French Canadian cousin who was heavily involved in the restoration of this beautiful culture, especially the Idioma. It puzzles me why on the mainland, this is still so marginalized. Even precious Hula is so stereotyped, maybe Hollywood is the problem. "Aloha" is in one's Oana or not. Mahalo nui loa, Aloha pumehana me ka'oia'i'o, Keiko
●I can understand this to some degree. Much of my culture has been sold. It is so sad. I cannot even get to some of the beaches I swam and surfed in. Lovely Mele. lovely family..... I feel sad....... Mahalo nui loa.... Aloha'oe.... Keiko
●Loa'a ke aloha 'aina? He hawai'i 'oe. He haole au. He mau kanaka kakou. He waiwai nui ka lokahi!
●E kaumaha au......e ola mau ia kanaka maoli!!
●what is an haole?
●When I listen to this song it bring me to tears and I feel so sad how our land was taken for us...
●And I cry,
●I am a Haole, and was fortunate to have Grandparents wealthy enough for me, an Alaskan, to spend a month or two each summer on Maui in the 70's and early 80's. It was different then, and that's why I love and understand this song a little. I miss the old days at Puamana...
●well said, well said=)
●are you suggesting that you like the fact that OUR islands belong to someone else rather than us? I understand the benefits of westernization, but think of the injustice that has happened, and is still happening. Listen Kaikua'ana, listen to the words of the song. Hawai'i should not have been a U.S. territory. It was forcefully taken, the people had no choice in the matter. Forgive me, I do not mean to aggravate you, or step on any toes, but I hope you understand. Mahalo
●I grew up here, and I've seen the changes of our land. I know our history, and it's sad. whenever I hear this song, I cry. thinking about how our island was, and what it is now Makes my heart heavy.
●3:10 nice towel
●mainland haoles are usually very ignorant, they come here and trash everywhere and disrespect the lands of our fathers. i am haole, from kailua , stay off our islands if you have no respect for our ways and our music. and our people.
●"HALOE FIRST WAS USED TO DISCRIBE A LIGHT COLOURED PIG."
●Sorry you feel that way....In history of the European and even today European maybe not you but as a group. Europeans have occupied, conquered, destroyed, raped, the people, the earth.... So maybe you didn't participate but you benefited and continue to benefit... Currently in Brazil and other parts of the world Big Business is destroying the people, the earth....AND We say nothing

Chad Hearne, Paul McDonnell, Dane Nakama, and Sean 'Stody' Stodelle all chartered a boat out of Kauai to dive Niihau. The trip was full of interesting happenings such as sharks, shallow water blackout
●owned privately by the robinson 'ohana, hawaiian is spoken almost exclusively on ni'ihau. there hawaiian families live simply. void of modern roads, hotels and electricity, ni'ihau preserves a uniquely sustainable way of life lost long ago on neighboring islands. glad you guys returned safely. sad to see all the hate by flaming posters. there are a lot of issues we have to deal with in this world and actions speak louder than words. it seems you have respect for the ocean which is awesome.
●Since its called the forbidden islands. Does this mean there forbidden.
●my uncle went surfing their before on a boat. There really are some big sharks over their. He told me that him and his friends were eating lunch on the boat and their still was one guy paddling back to the boat. So while they were eating they started to throw their chicken bones into the water and immediately a massive tiger shark showed up and swam right past the guy that was paddling in.
●what the hell is this song it sucks ass
●wow you really need to get a life and respect the nature and the wishes of the people on the island, if they wanted you there they would have invited you but you weren't were you? GO AWAY!
●judging by your comments, you seem to be pretty dumb. don't even try to stick up for anything hawaiian, and you have no right to speak for any of us. you're german right? who are you to give lectures about anything when your country committed mass genocide. if you don't like the human civilization, then just go kill yourself because in one way or another, you are contributing to the earth's demise.
●Hey there RicZxx if your so intelligent and so worried about the environment why dont you get off your fat ass and do something about it instead of talking crap to people who accualy enjoy what they love to do.. Ohh and by the way fish is already plural, you wouldn't say chineses.. moron! Keep up the good work my fellow men of the sea!
●When you catch your own fish, you don't contribute to the big money interests, food inc.... your not spending money that moves through a system thats making people more and more unhealthy . You need to see things from a larger perspective. I drive a 4 banger toyota truck and live a block from the pacific ocean. If you drive more than a 1/4 mile to work you hurt the environment more than when I go fish by your own logic. A lot of times i just walk to go spearfish
●So are you saying you don't drive a vehicle? because by your logic, if you drive anywhere, you are contributing to the environments demise, and it would be highly un-ethical... when you use gas to drive to the vegan market, your impact is greater against the environment, because not just the gas you burned, but the money you spend there will trickle through the economic system, and wind up funding things that destroy the environment.
●I don't eat any seafood and thank you for picking up trash. If you think that you are the helping the ocean than you are a hypocrite. There is nothing sustainable about driving a big car to the beach to kill a few fishes. I see every day big farts driving dozens of miles with huge cars just to do some ridiculous fishing.. guess what the eco bilance of this activity is. There is one lesson you should learn: the ocean is not your property, neither is this planet.
●If you eat any seafood, you are the ultimate hypocrite. Because any fish you eat, 5 others were killed as by catch. I have no by catch. The ocean provides me food, so yes, i use it, and it gives me great joy. But I also pick up trash on the beach and do everything i can to preserve and promote a healthy and sustainable fishery. So the ocean uses me as well. People like you will never understand because its the people like me who are the true stewards of the ocean. Not some arm chair kook....
●you speaking about arrogance? Nice slang.. using the ocean. So anyone who chooses not to destroy the ocean has no right to say anything according to your strange worldview. And who gives you the right to speak about anything related to Hawaii? Before the Haole came the islands did support a million people. Now they support a million beggars.
●Being able to provide local fish for my family is a blessing, not something to be sorry for. Your arrogance is right on point. your attitude is one against fisherman in general, not just people fishing the island. Go back to San Fran with all your other radical elite buddies. Do you even use the ocean? Is it even part of your life? Whats your connection to the ocean that gives you any credibility to open your mouth?
●what you describe is fishing to feed yourself. Sorry if you need to do that but its ok. What these guys did looks like fishing for fun in waters reserved for use by natives. Normally I would not view and much less comment such videos but whoever posted it here did it deliberately so that it will popup when searching for innocent content about Niihau. Its like when your kids search for harmless pet pictures and find hardcore bestiality porn instead. You have no idea what Niihau is, right?
●can read or what??
●You sound like one of those peta elite freaks. Enjoy your tofu wraps.... Me, on the other hand, will provide fish caught from my local waters for my family using the most selective form of fishing there is, spearfishing... no by catch. Educate yourself on the subject before you make foolish posts.
●iv never been to ni'ihau but i bet its beautiful and my girlfriend anuenue kanahele wants to have our wedding over there
●the hawaiians have lost so much stay off their forbidden islands greed is moving you to violate their boundaries maybe we come to your house and raid your food its all good right

●where is this
●these primitives killing fish for fun really put me off. Do they have no other joy in life.
●sorry all, but.. playing pretty music while showing you and your friends spear gunning beautiful looking fish is kind of creepy as sh*t. I'm sorry from the bottom of my heart, if this guy did pass on, because of a struggle with brain cancer.. That's horrible. and I won't say anything more than that.
●isn't that where iz lived when he was a kid?
