●It's idiotic to be proud of one's nationality ... it's basically being proud of achievements for which you haven't done anything except being born in the country where they were achieved...which is by the way a totally random event... Anyway, enjoy the music for what it is : fine art by a fine artist who HAPPEN to be Danish... That's all I'm saying.
●242 people don't have soul.
●Omg, finally someone gets it. You simply can't be proud of someone else's achievements. It's ridiculous. I guess people just don't know what pride really means.
●lol, are you imlying that the danes are inbreeds? =) But really, you can't be proud of something that is not an achievement of your own, that is a philosophical fact. You can be awed by the potential of human beings to express theme selves, but that has as much to to with pride as being proud of galaxy or some other star formation.
●Thank's, I can also read wiki info:)...BTW, HIM MOM WAS JEWISH:)))) and so on and on...anyway, Agnes is brilliant..
●Hitler wasnt born in Germany but in Austria-Hungary
●thump up if ur here because of gray's anatomy
●im danish but i live in canada, and when i visited a few years back for a family reunion, we tracked the family tree back into the 1400's - practically every dane born and bred is legitimately related!
●Danish people you better be proud of her! Hell, I'm Greek and I'm proud of her. This song is absolutely mesmerising. She's a true Siren.
●SZIGET FESTIVAL brought me here :) me likey!
●Also, think about it, England, USA all produce world famous people yearly, the novelty of international fame through the power of an amazing individual has worn off. To a country like denmark which has had little impact internationally speaking on the music scene, it is an important achievement and something perfectly normal to be proud of. And, I agree, AliceAlasmarties that talent and magic do not depend on nationality but it none the less does not mean that people should not be proud of her.
●Desværre var "Dagmar Overbye" dansk også... Unfortunately "Dagmar Overbye" was also danish, but should they be ashamed of him?? This is so wrong ...By the way...Agnes live in Germany..The country of Hitler???:))
●plante le drapeau du 15-18 :coeur:
●You should know that Danish people are very proud of their nationality. They are like a big family. (That is what I experienced in the west of Denmark) Because of the low population (around 5 mio. I think) is it really common that you meet someone, on the other side of the country, who know your aunt or friend or something like that. So I understand that there are comments like this. I'm a little bit proud too ;) ;)
●It is the internet, you can't keep people from saying their opinion.. you just did yourself, in the top comments.
●If we could just understand what is the point of this fight .__. Okay she's Danish, they have the right to be proud of her but nationnality has nothing to do with talent and talent has nothing to do with nationnality we're all humans, no? And Agnes Obel is REALLY amazing her voice is magic. Magic has nothing to do with nationnality either.
●Well I'm going to avoid the ridiculous flamewar happening below me and say this is amazing!
●YES! Keep it to yourself, thanks.
●but what if ppl are proud of her being DANISH.. then they sholdnt shut up.
●I don't say anything in your ears. I'm from Denmark aswell, but that has nothing to do with the song.
●you say in my ears that denmark is a shitty country so i just say shut the fuck up
●What ... The ... Fuck... are you talking about? Facepalm.
●get the hell out off go and se your justian bieber and like that i know hear a litel so shut up and go away from this song
●şarkı harbi güzel amk :( ccc inci ccc
●Cette chanson est dans la série Revenge épisode 4 , c'est comme ça que je l'ai connue <3

Later 1992.
●good cover! really good there are much of them, butI think that it is the best he have nice voice and so on... i think that is thebest cover on Hallelujah
●Does Mr Cale ever respond to comments about his videos? I would love his opinion about my live version of 'Hallelujah'. That would be a massive honour.
●Es bonita............
●I really do love Mr Cale's version of this classic and it is definitely one of the very best versions. Being honest, I think it takes a maturer man to convey the intended emotion and meaning of this song... and Mr Cale does that brilliantly. So do I, but I haven't had over 4 million views! Lol. ;-) If you do listen to my live cover version, listen to the whole song, as I build it up to an emotional and powerful ending. God bless.
●Thank you to everybody who has messaged me to say that my new live cover version of this beautiful song is the best version of all. I am very flattered. Cheers.
●Excellent! I love it. I have just uploaded to my channel my new live cover version of this beautiful classic. People say that my previous live cover version of 'Hallelujah' is excellent, but they are saying that my new live cover is even better. Listen for yourselves at my channel. Cheers and best wishes, Andrew.
●Hey everyone, I just recorded my own version of "Hallelujah" and would really appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to watch/listen to my video (Just go to my channel and click on my videos). Feel free to subscribe as well! Thanks so much!!
●My best friend loves this song and we play it in my orchestra class i'll never forget the first time we played this together the song means a lot to us i love you
●Hallelujah
●Woo this song is awesome!!! Only if you guys want could you have a watch of my piano cover of this song??.. please? If u want u can message me for the free music if you enjoyed it :) THANKS GUYS! ... /watch?v=wR_l2ESkxks

●Awesome
●I am a huge fan of Leonard Cohen, but Cale is responsible for the beauty of this song. Buckley credited Cale as his inspiration for his version. Cale, Buckley, Cohen, Wainwright.
●Great Post.*****Thumbs up
●Ho sings the official song? Ho made this song :P
●Who's the violist?
●My mother was pregnant with me when this video was made.
●!!!MAJESTUOSO!!!!! para llorar de emocion.MIGUEL ALE & FRIKTANGO hacen una version maravillosa de Toma este vals de F:G:Lorca y L. Cohen.
●Leonard Cohen s version is quite compelling as well
●Cohen does it best, especially live. the studio cut is somewhat marred by eighties production values
●Amazing song...one of my all time favorites. I just recorded an acoustic version of it as well and would really appreciate it if you guys took a few minutes to listen/watch my video (just go to my channel and click on my videos..It's titled "Hallelujah (AnJ'rue Cover)". Thanks so much!
●Thanks for the info. I guess I should've done my homework before saying that!
●lol I think quite a few people covered this before Cale. He first covered it in '91 on that tribute album, while the song was released in '84. I know Bob Dylan played it live twice in '88, and I'm sure other people played it during the seven year gap. Cale was the one to popularize the song though.
●My favorite version of the song :)
●ignore the oxymoron at the end there! lol

●Its the best version of halellujah tge other arent good
●Well it is the ULTIMATE atheist song. For all of us atheists, its anthem for the loss of faith. A cold and a broken hallelujah!
●I know about that... thinking that way to...
●Thumbs up if you remember this from cold case!

●Oh, and for what it's worth, I don't think either of us "won" the argument. That we manage to understand each other is sufficiently good.
●I'm sorry if you felt I was attacking you in that last comment. My point is that you were arguing on behalf of the _concept_ of blasphemy from the beginning, but you were doing it in a roundabout and unclear fashion. My advice to you is to say what you mean, and to be aware that there is little difference between the words you don't like to use, and the synonyms you prefer. At least we understand each others' positions on grammar...we just got sidetracked into patterns of communication.
●Cuz it sounds like I'm trying to be a preacher man or something. That's why I don't like using it, but it was the easiest word to explain my point, which you took to a different direction to use against me. Smart. That's how you win an argument. You twist the opponent's words to your convenience. Your entire comment just now was against the word blasphemy. Good job. If you wanna play that way, I'll give it to you. You win. Don't bother writing cuz I won't respond.
●Honestly, when you mean a word, use the word. If you mean the term "blasphemy", use that term. Words mean exactly what they're taken to mean, and unless you use the words with great universal clarity, you can't be understood clearly, either by others or yourself. If the word "blasphemy" makes you uncomfortable, ask yourself why using lengthy synonymous phrasing should be any more comfortable; it's certainly not as clear. And with that, I'm off.
●Which goes back to my first comment. That wasn't its original meaning. It's like when you use "Oh my God!" as an exclamation. Like: "Oh my God what have you done?" That wasn't its original meaning and wasn't intended to be used that way. Basically it's "blasphemy", though I'm not very fond of using that word myself, that's the easiest way to explain it. I know what you're saying, though and you have a point. Words such are used in all kinds of ways even though they mean something else.
●The problem is that you're treating the word hallelujah as an axiom. The word itself does not contain any such invariate meaning, because what an individual thinks when they *hear* that word is heavily dependent on their present state of mind. This is true of _any_ word used in English, because it's a function of context and grammar, not of a dictionary meaning. People can even sarcastically say phrases like "Praise the Lord!", and that doesn't mean they're either praising or commanding praise.
●If you're gonna say something, make sure you know what you're saying is true, otherwise don't bother responding trying to act smart. I don't wanna start a fight, so if your next comment has any trace of insult I'll just let you talk to yourself.
●Ah, you're an absolutist. My bad. I shouldn't have responded.
●That's the problem. That's not what it means. It means "God be praised." That's it. It's not a word that can be used in a different meaning depending on the context. It means God be Praised. It doesn't and can't mean anything else apart from its original meaning, which was taken from the 16th century word: hallĕlūyāh - 'praise ye the Lord.'
●The song didn't use it apart from the word's original meaning. The song repeatedly uses it in mournful, wistful, sarcastic, bittersweet and hollow senses. It's an expression of the sentiment "why, God, have you allowed this to happen to me?"
●Oh right, yes- I was mistaken the song in shrek was John cale's version. I believe rufus wainwright's version was on the shrek soundtrack though.
●love this song!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <33
●Btw, you guys do know "hallelujah" means: "God be praised" (uttered in worship or as an expression of rejoicing): "He is risen! Alleluia!" It's a word that remains the same thing in every language. This song used it completely out of the word's original meaning. But don't get me wrong. It's a really nice song. Just saying cuz most don't really know what it means.

●so happyy

●Franz Ferdinand did a great cover with this song!
●since you didnt read my comment properly, i think you should go take a road trip and rethink your life
●Since this song came out first, I don't think that's likely.
●Ba Dum tss!
●this song is nothing without the intro!!!
●lol
●the opening line about "how it starts" was blatantly ripped off by that airborn toxic event song
●thanks :D

●if there was a movie about my life, this would be the song to the trailer.
●and now? OLED Soundsystem?
●this song is in a recent (a year or two recent) movie trailer, anybody have a clue what movie??
●*rimshot*
●umm, its a joke. a geeky one.
●why did they change the name? (Sort of)
●I cried. After listening to this with my 8th grade class whom I had basically grown up with, I cried hard. We all were leaving for high school but everyone went to different schools.
●@Mystikosecret, and coming from someone whose band sounds like a bad mix of Nickelback, Creed and Daughtry, I its too early for you to have an opinion on good music.

lyrics hallelujah writen by leonard cohen
●Ich finde diese version is besser : /watch?v=VtigYzf-TvQ
●this is the best version
●It has religious references but that doesn't necessarily make it religious. People say "Bless You" when someone sneezes out of habit. Most don't even know its true meaning nor do they say it religously. But....it is religious nonetheless. Hallelujah means Praise Jehovah.
●It's a religious/christian influenced song of heartbreak.. Delilah betrayed and broke Samson's heart.. etc. To me the song is about being used and broken.. "All I ever learned from love was how to shoot someone who outdrew you" <-- you hear this later on. It's like a lesson learned. You learn not to be shot down. You learn to change the table.. <3 actually a very heartbreaking song!
●It's simple best ;)
●wow, I have searched so long for this on Youtube! I have always loved this song and always will
●This guy's no better than benny mardones.
●Jeff Buckley's Version Is By Far The Best One...Even Better Than The Original...Sorry For All Leonard Cohen And John Cale's Fans...But It's The Truth
●Not the best version, but very close to it!
●yup it was in shrek, while shrek was going home after he thought he got betrayed by donkey
●it aint the best version
●Shrek ? oO
●This song is completely sexual, every verse.
●This song has many different angles coming out of it. "Hallelujah" is used in some sexual tones in the song, it also is used in religious and in broken down, desperate ways. Obviously there are a LOT of biblical references. Doesn't exactly make the song a religious one, just means it uses some stories from a book as "scenarios'. Any way, I think we can all agree: The song fucking rocks.
●thumbs up if you love shreck
●There's many different covers of this song and different versions. It may be too fast and for others it's just right, but that's sometimes how covers/different versions are and I think most of them are well done either way :)
●Yes! OMG! AWKWARD
●I AGREE! Are you from DeSales, Pufnstuff
●This is not right! Lyrics r yes! but I'm in Mass choir at my school, this is our song the bginning part is somtimes way too fast! he says Haell ey lu yah! not Hall eh lu yah!
●hallelujah, that there exists such as sexual orgasm,....hallelujah
●well the only one who really knows is the person who wrote it
●i thought that's what you were referring to and i agree absolutely,it's all open to ones own interpretation.
●Does Mr Cale ever respond to comments about his videos? I would love his opinion about my live version of 'Hallelujah'. That would be a massive honour.
●This version uses "holy dove". Most use the original "holy dark". I suspect there's some editorializing and agendizing going on in this version of lyrics. Of course, I think the entire song is open to varying interpretations, even the clear Biblical references.

Lou Reed & John Cale performing Waiting for My Man at the Bataclan in Paris in 1972.
●gooooooooooooooooooooood!!!
●Cale's crazy shit is awesome, but what I love most about the Velvets is dat special Tucker\Morrison groove. It just can't be replicated, so unique. When Cale left, it was still The Velvet Underground, only softer. When Moe left, it became Lou Reed and Friends ot smth :D
●Watching lou reed in this, I get a contact high. I'm practically scratching right now.
●Yes....and that guy singing needs to wake himself up too. Looks like he's about to nod off.
●2 years later Lou dyes his hair blonde...shoots up on stage and funks this song up in the name of commerciality.
●Cale's music was much more interesting but I find myself enjoying Lou's stuff a lot more. 'The Velvet Underground' is an INCREDIBLE album. Everyone who says the band went downhill because Cale left is full of shit.
●but lou's on guitar
●So borring without Sterl and Mo
●john may be very talented and the one that put the dark edge on the velvets, but Ill be damned if I'm gonna stand here and let you tell me he was the "real talent" in the velvets. lou, was the man, and always will be the man of the velvets.
●sterling cant play the guitar ad Mo cant play the drums and were just junkie friends? I'd love to see things from your point of view.... but I dont think both ofour heads will fit up your ass at the me time
●early seventies...the burnout era
●oh, really? and what about sterling morrison? just a junkie that barely played the guitar?
●Reed and Cale were both great! The rest of the VU were their junkie friends barely playing their instruments, but its cool cause it worked out great.
●That's exactly what I was thinking when I watched this video!
●i wouldnt be that biased man. it was lou and johns band they both had the same amount of influence.
●Hey guys, I'm 15 and if you have any spare time please check out my guitar covers on my channel. It sucks advertising like this but it's the only way to get exposure thanks if you check them out :)
●talking about charisma: just compare any performance of Reed doing this song here on youtube and those of John Cale, which I´ve uploaded and the upload of femmeBanale. If you come up with any Reed performance which equals those of Cale please let me know!
●40 anni fa.....11 anni prima che io nascessi eppure....al giorno d'oggi di musica così valida non ne esiste....alcuni sono musicisti altri sono geni... rock'n rol
●Based off Lou's facial expression and his lidded eyes, i half expect to see a syringe laying beneath his chair, the needle still dripping the heroin he had just scored from...the man.
●hey whoa wait a minute...Cale is very talented and yes he did give VU their unique sound. But hold on, Lou is just magnetic, his words are painful and mysterious. I think all four velvets contributed equally. But lou had the charisma.
●lou is on junk and cale is probably fucked up too but he caught it/got it right after a bar or two
●Goodness, Lou looks somewhat bouldered.
