●I was there nothing wrong with what the pilots did. Rockets were wired wrong forward firing rockets were supposed to fire after downward firing rockets . Downward firing rockets fire first to slow decent rate then forward rockets to stop aircraft. Wires were crossed during installation. So when they flipped the switch wrong rockets fired and plane stalled. Also remember this was designed and modified during a two week period. Program was not stopped due to the accident because the hostages we

This accident happened cos the pilot started the bosster brake too early, so the airplane has stopped but was still at 5 -7 meters above the ground. It fell down crushing itself.....

●Yes and no. IIRC It at least partly worked in the tests. However after the mishap flight; I think the plug was pulled on the project. I don't think it was ever used in operations. However a relative of this project is still in service. The RATO (rocket assisted takeoff) versions are still in service. IIRC The reverse thrust braking rocket and cushioning rocket concept was abandon after this failure.

If you find the functional take-off video, the plane is wheel's up within 15 feet, and at approx. 300 feet altitude within 100 feet forward distance. It would easily clear out of a stadium, but luckily, they never needed to find out for sure, as the terrorists released the hostages the same day Reagan was elected.

●Yeah but the recruits were coddled almost. Look at the stress levels. Recruits in the US don't get free time and certainly don't get to sit around and joke with eath othe. Then add on an infantry US Marine's combat training post bootcamp which is another 3 months. Bootcamp for US Marines is all about stress and learning discipline with a limited focus on combat training. That comes after boot for any 03 infantry guy.
●navy seals training is identical to royal marines, in terms of length and requirements and the fact you can join as civilian. Sas require 3 years active service, then a 40mile with 55lbs on.run to even be sellected for training(90% drop out at this stage), followed by months in brunei jungle, then they are stripped down and required to evade capture after spending days on the run with no food, when caught, they get tortured mentaly and put in stress positions.
●Actually ive looked at this before, us marines train for 13 weeks, royals for 28 weeks. There are 3000 royals vs 150,000 usmarines, the royals are specialized elited units, mmuch above the us marines., comparable to navy seals. Looks at entry( 3 pullups us vs 6 uk,3 mile in 28.00 (usms) vs 22.30 for royal marine(same as navy seals). Infact type in tarzan assualt course, we do all the courses with 50lb kit on, you do it in track suits.

●1st SFOD-D FTW!!! No seriously all the these units are highly trained and have a job to do and they all do a pretty damn fine job at it. I'd say SAS is the best in the world with SFOD-D in 2nd...If you read Inside Delta Force it really shows you only the tip of the ice berg, albeit a bit controversial. DEVGRU is probably close if not on par with 1st SFOD-D but allot of people tend to inflate Navy SEALs more than necessary..I still have lots of respect and admiration for all these units however.
