Fun with an old hard drive. Took the platters out of many hard drives and put them into one drive. Spin it up to speed and give it a nudge, then watch the fun.

This is a hard drive clock I built from a 3.5" hard drive, some tri-color LEDs and a PIC16F252 microcontroller. It works by shining the LEDs underneath a platter with a slot cut into it, and by timing

●I dont know if free install of windows comes with HDs now. But back in 2006 when I had to get another HD. Windows came with it. This was for a DELL (that doesnt allow you to change CMOS and so on). I dont use DELL anymore.

●Oh... someone heard my idea? Put a BUTTON (something to protect it due to accidents of pushing it) on a hard drive that will erase the HARD DRIVEs memory or wipe it clean? Why would you do something like that? Well... you are on a PC family one... not business. Family PCs get viruses and all kinds of shit on them. ●I didn΄t know that the head touches the disk and that it moves instantly. I think you turned on and off the HDD by a switcer. When you shut down the PC normally, it parks, it doesn΄t stay up.

●As far as I know, it's simply changing the speed of the motor. This is easily done through PWM (pulse width modulation) and could be controlled with an Arduino or similar microcontroller and a motor driver
