●Whales are not stupid. They will avoid hitting strange floating objects if they manage to see it. (and don't know if this is the case, however). What happened is not exactly "safe", but I think that's was safer than crossing a road full of buses here at São Paulo! :-) (at least, it is equally scaring!)
