●Looks that way, from what I got out of it she traveled back to the 70's to look for someone. Though the original novel is from the late 60's, and all the adaptations seem to differ in the plot anyway. The anime does relate to the original story though, so I'm thinking of reading it myself.

●Also true. I think a solution to that problem is to eliminate poverty by education and fair play. Its a well known fact that uneducated people generally have more children, and it's insane taken that they tend to be poor already and now get even lesser chanse to stay afloat with more mouths to feed.
