●While it is true that US troops would shoot the guys with katana first, that was because the katana made it easy to identify who the officers were and thus disrupt the chain of command. Also, influence by other cultures is heavily overrated for the Renaissance. Swords changed a lot before and during the medieval period, and actually much of the development of swords during the Renaissance had less in common with Asian swords than before (rapiers, smallswords, etc).
●I would have to disagree there. Celt, German & Roman swords had a lot of variety to them, dagger-like only describes the gladius. Not the langseax, falcata, spatha, viking swords, etc. Celts/Germans/Saxons were using those methods a good 500-1000 years before Japan. Shin-gunto katana (ww2) were produced from 1934, replacing the kyuu-gunto (based on western cavalry swords) because ultra-nationalists demanded a native sword. It was propaganda and racism, not effectiveness.

Right now, I'm working on theatrical reproductions of armor and I know someone who specializes in military history.

●せん断能力は、日本刀よりもハサミの方が上なのだから、ハサミで切れて当然なのです。そもそも、ハサミでは切れて当たり前だし、日本刀で切れたことがすごいわけで、比べるもんでもないんですがね。 いや、構造的には同じものだから、強度さえ問題なければ、0.4くらいなら市販のハサミでも充分切れますよ。プロ用の金切狭なら、本人の握力次第だけど、1.0くらいまでは切れますし、普通の人でも0.8くらいは切れます。 だれも、図工用なんていってないし、ちゃんと金切と書いている方もいますよ。
