●The sound of powerful & precise motoring, eh? Yeah...That makes sense. I'm not trying to badmouth the 787B, I think the "cool" factor it has is great, and it attracts great audiences. I do think that people are missing the reason why I'm saying something that looks cool/sounds cool/won a race doesn't necessarily mean it is the "best" racing vehicle. The overall combined strategy of the Mazda factory team had worked well and lead to a victory. Not because it was the most dramatic on track.
●There are many reasons why it became ineligible for the following year. I'm not about to elaborate on everything on a youtube comment. You can message me if you want to learn why.
●The reliability part is true. Torque isn't important in racing. Power output is the only important thing. If you have a given amount of power, you can convert energy into moving the car forward. The rotary isn't as thermally efficient as a piston-engine. Due to the shape,volume, and time allowed for combustion, much energy is lost. Minimum weight requirement was not as important back then. They used this to their advantage and ran a high power/weight engine, with more fuel on board.
●No, the main reason they were banned is due to the advantage the rotary had with torque, engine reliability AND FUEL EFFICIENCY. Rotarys can scream for days on end without giving up. Do more research.
●I'm not saying it only won once due to inefficiency. Rotary's were banned by the FIA due to the FACT that they were inefficient.

When compared to the previous years (well, excluding the extraordinary 1988 race), 2 laps is a smaller than average margin. Also many of the past races were 1-2 finishes (Mercedes in 1989, Jaguar in 1990), so perhaps should be compared to the 3rd place finishers.
●2 laps means 13.6 KM x 2 = 27.2 KM ,..... i don't think its a small difference.... maybe on a small F1 track,.... but not on circuit de la Sarthe.

The fact that Mazda managed to do some politicking and get a weight break compared to the all the other C2 category cars (Mercedes and Jaguar mainly) proves no one expected them to do too well.
