These guys were playing those instruments. There were few, if any editing corrections made in the pitch, timing, & overall sound of that recording. Everything you hear & see nowdays has been run through computers & editors to make it look & sound just right. These guys nailed it right on stage, that's real talent.

●On this day in 1969 {May 17th} the Ventures performed "Hawaii Five-O" and "Theme from A Summer Place" on the late Dick Clark's American Bandstand... Two months earlier on March 8th "Hawaii Five-O" entered Billboard's Hot Top 100; eventually it peaked at #4 and spent 14 weeks in the Top 100... And one month later on June 28th "Theme from A Summer Place" entered the Top 100 and it reached #83... Sadly; Co-founder & bassist Bob Bogle passed away on June 14th, 2009 at age 75... R.I.P.

It cost about $600 and won awards for the Producer, Gene Weed.

●Mel Taylor one of the best , if not the best rock drummer of all time. He got so much sound out of that little bitty drum kit with only one cymbal. Love that style of playing, all the rhythm nowadays is played on the hi-hats. Everything sounds the same.

●Caravan A la 1965. Wow! Rockin' solos. And the audience goes nutz. How could one not? This melody transcends all the boring rules. Never played in the same way twice. Tizol was a genie-us. Great post. Where else could one view this awesome slice of musical history? I just posted a cheerful capoed-violin improvisation of this venerable melody on my channel...

●Mel was a motor... what more can you say? Nokie is (as always) incredible. Is it any wonder the Ventures were so influential? Bob Bogle and Don Wilson "Best Supporting Musicians" anywhere...... AND they put the band together! Gotta Love Em All!
●Mel Taylor one of the best , if not the best rock drummer of all time. He got so much sound out of that little bitty drum kit with only one cymbal. Love that style of playing, all the rhythm nowadays is played on the hi-hats. Everything sounds the same.

●They have been my favorite since 1995. An uncle had their best of cd. One listen and I was hooked on The Ventures sound. I have heard their tunes on the radio before then but did not know who it was. They will always be the masters of instrumental/surf guitar. They are the standard. I have seen them live in concert two times (05/17/08 & 06/05/09) and hope to see them again. A must see band!
●I worked in a bowling alley when this was new and played it many times on the juke box when it was lunch or dinner time. it made an after school job a bit nicer.
