●I recently watched it for the first time, (not a big fan of Harrison) and have to say this is one of the best movies ive ever seen. Easily one of the greatest of all time. I believe Dekkard was a replicant but didn't know it, very complicated movie but thats my theory.
●Had the privilege of seeing upon release in a theatre. Lots of mixed reactions and couldn't stop thinking about it. I do remember a film reviewer calling it "complicated, downbeat, and depressing." This is a thinking persons movie and it won't go over well with folks who want action from Stallone or Willis or Joe Piscopo.

●Actually, I think that cloning instead of building androids defeats the purpose - the point is that androids and humans are intrinsically different, but their differences become less clear as the novel progresses. Substituting the androids for clones takes away the debate over empathy. I also disagree with you over Deckard - the way he's portrayed in the novel makes us question whether he is himself an android, a distinction which becomes harder to determine, thus the crux of the novel.

●Agreed, some interesting parts of the book are not mentioned like the virtual reality-internet system they had or that weird religion people followed, or Deckards robotic sheep. But Ridley Scott added a lot of things that improved upon the book. Deckard for example is a more mature version of Dick's Deckard. The idea of cloning instead of building androids I think takes the story to a whole new level. Are you not persecuting humans? What would you do in their place? Would you not do the same?
●True, the original book from P.K. Dick talks about the aftermath of WW3 and the radioactive fallout like white dust. There are even Russians in the book trying to kill Deckard. It is not clear in the movie what happen to the environment, something went terribly wrong but was not explained in the movie. I played the video game and it was more truthful to the book than the movie, however it retained the same imagery.
●I think one of the technological concepts that was not clear for the audiences back then in the early 80s is that replicants are nothing more than clones, they are not robots. This movie was a warning about the future dangers of cloning, over population, global warming. Also the rise of Asian tigers and the financial collapse of the US... People back then were very ignorant about things that today are becoming a reality. This movie is more relevant today than 30 years ago...

●It's sad that so few people have read the book this is based on ('Do Androids Drean of Electric Sheep?'); it's much sharper, wittier, and has a much more interesting philosophical line of thought. This film is a poor 'replicant' of it. Or, rather, 'android'.
