●thanks so much. been watching wipe out videos for a while now. i dont really plan to surf big time like this, actually to learn how to swim would be a great first step but i never had that drive before until i experienced riding the board, and it felt great. to think that i was just on my stomach the whole time. but i sure pray i could do those big waves someday. thanks again!
●Yeah, I guess you can say its an unwritten rule, but we usually dont drop in on someone's wave if they get there first... But if you both drop in at the same time just split and share the wave... Hope you get over your fear, once you get into it, you will love it forever.
●is there a surfing code of ethics? i notice that although there are many surfers, usually they give way to just one? is that an unwritten rule or they have already arranged amongst themselves beforehand who would ride the wave first? I hope the surfers reply. I am really fascinated with this sport and but i have always been aquaphobic. But wanting to surf is my driving force to take that first step to get over my phobia. Thanks!

●Speaking as a 65 year old who began surfing 1963 at La Jolla Shores in the days of Jan and Dean and Bruce Brown movies when Phil Edwards was considered the top surfer in the world, I'm amazed at how far surfing style and technique has come, and also the technology to support the style -- i.e., surfboard design. And to document it all now they've got GoPro cameras to film inside the waves. Who would have thought back then that surfing would look like this.

●I remember doing wipeout.It was the standard for all bands and a test for the drummers. If they couldn't do it they didn''t work. Diamond head was my favorite, but one we played the most was Pipeline and Apache 65. They were the most 'sophisticated' for a band to do. MIss those simple and uncomplicated days.
●Bob and Mel are gone but Nokie and Don are still at it. My bass player used to call me Nokie when the band we were in back in the 80's played instrumentals. I still have not managed to cop many of Nokie's riffs but still play the ones I can.
●you're probably right. Can't believe what you hear on the radio.I heard that Nokie died around 1980. And it was a shock to all of us. Of course he didn't, and he is still our hero. It was he that got me to play guitar in the first place. New kids have no idea what innovators they were back then. The only other guitar player that we flipped over was Bill Hailey's session guitarist on rock around the clock. Everything else was just mediocre. They were magic to us then.
●I love the Mosrire guitars! They sound very different from Fenders, both brighter and hotter at the same time. Unfortunately Semie Moseley was a great guitar builder but he ran the company badly and the Ventures never got paid anything for their endorsements. The materials that made the guitars different also made them a lot more expensive. Today they have re-issued them at arount $3000 apiece.
●I am pretty sure Nokie didn't write the Hawaii 5-0 vtheme. The Ventures' version was not the original TV theme. And I remember reading that when the Ventures' version was recorded for TV that the original lead track was recorded by session guitar legend Tommy Tedesco because Nokie had not learned all of it yet and Nokie doesn't play from sheet music. A few days after the initial session with the orchestr Nokie overdubbed his lead part in and Tommy's was deleted from the master mix.
