In Nairobi Kenya for example everyone drives Toyotas because Toyota already ships to Kenya more than any other company due to the off reading tourism (safaris) need for a reliable, capable, and available off road vehicle. I'm not sure about Australia in particular but I know that in Africa the Land Cruiser has set up quite the market base all over the continent.

In the Amazon, Sumatra, Madagascar, Papua New Guinea & other remote rough regions the Jeep is not the choice, especially with stupid 35" tires. Diesel lasts longer, has much more torque, does not explode, allows for greater range.
●I have a Wrangler TJ now, I have had a Diesel version when I was in Europe. Diesel was much better! The Toyota J70 is better than the wrangler hands down. I know someone who owns a game park in South Africa, he has bought Wranglers (Diesel only), Land Rover Defenders, and Toyota J70's. The J70 holds up the best, followed by the Defender & the Jeeps have the most issues.
